Small netbook thing

Featured Replies

I'm after a cheapish netbook to use out and about to access my back office of an online store, add products etc. It's all online based so can tether from my mobile.

Been to Currys today and had a ganders but I'm not sure what to go for. I need a keyboard so a tablet is out..but quite like the idea of these detachable keyboard types. They had a couple around the £200 mark.

Has any one got any experience? I want fast boot time and quick loading of pages etc but other than that I'm not going to be doing anything fancy!

Could a Chromebook be worth a shout too? I just have no idea..

It depends what your used to and what you call fast. I recently bought a laptop for around £400. It isn't anything fancy but the hardware spec was good with one of the latest and fastest Intel I5 CPUs and 4gb of ram with a 500gb HDD and couldn't bare how it slow it was compared to my desktop machine, even just for web use so had to invest in an SSD for it and an 8GB ram kit and its like a different machine now.

I would make sure you have a go first on whatever you like the look of and see how it feels to you but if you want to run something like windows 10 you need  a decent machine as it uses a lot of system resources. I'm not sure if netbooks have got any better but they used to be dreadful to use

I'm using a Lenovo 100S 11" netbook thingy right now.

It lives in my kitchen. I do the occasional bit of work on it as well or stream some videos. Boots fast since it's running from 32Gb solid state. SD card for more storage and USB if needed.

Very lightweight, long battery life and I've been very pleased with it especially when I only paid £129 for it from Amazon.

You wouldn't wan't to do a whole days work on it and it can struggle with some heavier websites and the keyboard is not a work of art but for £129 it's a lot of computing for the money.

Not sure if there is anything newer that is similar.

Asus version

I've gone for a Lenovo Miix thing in the end for £150. Had a go in Currys, but none in stock. So ordered online.

Arrived today. Neat little thing. Intel Atom processor, detachable keyboard so can be used as a tablet. Windows 10, Very responsive mouse trackpad and the keyboard feels good. Screen is bright and colourful too. It's quick to boot and everything seems to zip along nicely. It didn't arrive with loads of bloatware to uninstall either!

I think your expectation of what it would do were reasonable.

Too many people buy a £200 laptop and think it'll number crunch for CERN.
