MFSW BUTTONS AND COLUMBUS

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Have installed a Columbus genuine (previously was a SWING radio)  and a Bluetooth module is waiting to receive to connect the next couple of days which will have a dedicated mic and which will be fitted up in the light dome position.

So guys does any know if the right part of the buttons can be replaced so that to accommodate the telephone button and thus control the phone from it  (accept/decline calls, entering and making calls, etc)  like others editions do have?

Or else...can the current one button  (with 3 circled arrows)  be coded via VCDS to work like the original?

If in any case the buttons will need replacing to fit the ones with telephone button, does my car  (2009 elegance edition with 4-spoke wheel and MFSW and full maxidot)  accept it or any issues with absent controller or wiring etc?

Can these equipment be found outside SKODA dealers?

Thank you for your replies!

Regards

You can replace the buttons with a set with 'phone prep' to give you a telephone button. I used some from a cheap used damaged MFSW with a phone button when I added BT. It should just be plug and play, I don't think there is any controller, coding or wiring changes needed.

VCDS won't be able to change the behavior of your current buttons I'm afraid. However, if you replace a resistor inside the buttons it is possible to change between source select and phone functionally. I think it was done on a Russian site if I recall.

Thank you mate for the targeted answers!

Do you have any info for the replacing of the resistor?

Is it easy to pull of the buttons (need trim tools)?

So you did exactly like what I want to do...!

Thought there should be presented a controller (and maybe another special steering wheel wiring...) for phone functionality as my car has nothing about.

So all the memories and functionality are sourced directly from the same buttons..

You said you don't think there should be  another controller, any extra wiring and coding, so how really did you do yours?

Any ebay link for buttons?

Thank you in advance!

It was a while back I did mine.

If I remember correctly there was no need for any specialist tools, remove the airbag (normal safety warnings) and unplug the MFSW buttons. They should just pull out but will be stiff. Once the new ones are in and the airbag is back, they should just work. The phone button won't do anything until you've fitted/coded the BT module. No other wiring or controllers needed as you already have a MFSW.

I can't find the page about the resistor swap but if I come across it I'll let you know.

You're great!

I have noticed that buttons are a separate part on the steering wheel (snapping part) so thought could be pulled out without airbag off...

But you know better than me..

As far as the button model, once I had a look in a dealer and they found on the official parts 3 or 4 different type of buttons.....so also would differentiate the functionality among those models which I fancy following by appropriate controllers for each....

That's why I believed needed any possible other controller etc....

So for those types of buttons don't know exactly how they differentiate.....

Yes I think I have to fit the Bluetooth module (Dension) in order to be able to play with the phone button  (once they are fitted)

I'll appreciate if you remember to send me anything for that resistor change...

Thank you!
