Amundsen - remove SD card music?

Featured Replies

Hello Folks

After a change of SD card, to one which doesn't have 'error' music files on it, my Amundsen still has music on it (including the 'error' files it can't use) which is not on the the SD Card that's now in it.  I've had a rummage and read the manual, but I'm not finding the answer as to how to get the old stuff off.  Is is obvious, what am I missing, anyone know how to do it?

I've still not managed to sort this out

I can at least scroll alphabetically to where the working music files start and play music in alphabetical order.

Spoke to the very nice Aaron at Skoda's online chat, who looked it up for me, only to discover no answer.  So he passed it on to a technical advisor.  That was a week ago and I've heard nothing since.

Can't help but think there must be a simple answer that I'm missing.

The Amundsen doesn't have any internal storage, do you have any other SD card plugged in or anything in the USB slot?

That's what doesn't make sense.  New 32gb SD Card, with a very specific number of tracks on it, and the Amundsen is still showing a load of other tracks that are most definitely not on the SD Card.  I've also noticed it's not showing all the tracks on the SD Card - One of the tracks is from an album, which still shows up as an 'error file' so it appears to not be recognising the same track on the new SD card, which is definitely there as I've brought it back in again to make doubly sure. Other tracks from the same album are there and fine. It's most weird.

Now wondering if the Amundsen might have a problem.  It's working fine otherwise.

My Amundsen has 2 SD card slots in the glovebox plus a USB slot under the heater controls, are ALL those empty in your car?

The USB and Aux have nothing plugged in to them but SD2 has the Satnav card in it.  I've tried both removing the SD card safely, and not safely and it hasn't made any difference. The Satnav SD card was in it when I got the car new and I've never removed it since.  Wonder if it's worth trying swapping the SD cards to the other slots?

If there is only one SD card in situ, I suspect that you may have some tunes copied to the Nav SD card.

Stick it in your PC and see if the extra music files show up.

Good idea, but nope.  The youngest file on the Nav SD card is 7 August 2014.  I did delve deeper, just in case, but there are no music files on it.

It's quite perplexing!

My Sat Nav SD Card is in Slot number 1 ( just been out to look ) I'd swop the cards around Gary

Is there a buffer or cache for the most recent tunes?

And would resetting the HU clear it?

Any idea how to hard reset the HU?

Here's a snap of the error files, which aren't on the SD card (either of them) - the ones with an underscore before them.

The other photo shows the tracks which are on the SD card and play.  Note that 'All you had to do was stay' doesn't show as being on the SD Card, yet it is.

Think I'll go swap the SD cards around as Andy's suggested.  You never know!

I think press and hold the power button on the HU until it starts the reset.

I'll go online and find the manual in a mo.

Just watched a reboot video on youtube. Press and hold power for about 10 seconds till it restarts.

Or there's this:

On the Golf when you hit Factory settings there is a sub menu where you can just factory reset Media or any section you want.

Instruction manual says SD2 slot only for the Nav card Andy.

The dealer put the card in Slot one when I picked up the 230 new.  Works in Slot one, or at least mine does.

Maybe we have differing HU's:

Hard reset's with and without the card's in have made no difference :crying:

Just brought the SD card in yet again to check there's nothing hidden on it - this is a pic from the screen on my Mac:

There's nothing other than music on it, and 'All you had to do was stay' is clearly on it.  This is just an example by the way, it's not just Taylor Swift it doesn't like!

Thanks for all the suggestions chaps - I appreciate them

The card has been in slot one for over a year, never been removed, Sat Nav works fine

" Would it be safe to swop it over ? "

Do you use a Mac?

I ask because those look like the files that OS X tends to leave behind (and not show when you look in Finder).

If so then that is the problem, and this might help https://lifehacker.com/377011/delete-mac-system-files-with-dotclean

Okay, I'll give it a go.

I've just done a factory reset on the media too.  Again, no change and it's still showing the error files which aren't on the SD card.

All rather illogical.

Aha, yes!!

I use a Macbook Pro.  I don't have a PC.

Looks like you're onto something SWBoy :)

I've Screen shot the Online Manual dated 11.2016.

Doesn't tell you which slot to put the SD Card in

I've used PCs since the late 1980's and added a Macbook last year - so I'm discovering the "features" (with help from my stepson who is a Mac system administrator).

Well well well:

Looks like the simplest solution is to find someone with a PC and remove all the ._ files from there.

I'm not comfortable downloading fixing software and not confident with anything other than end user stuff.

Looks like this means I ought not add anything to the SD card from iTunes or the Mac.

You could always use the method of running the built-in dot_clean command in the Mac Terminal application?

That way you don't need to download any other software, and you wouldn't need access to a Windows PC.

My Bolero does the same (also on Macbook).

It also has an annoying habit of still displaying tunes that have been deleted in its own little "Trash" folder, which is hidden when I put the SD card in the Mac!
