Had my Rapid Spaceback for 3 weeks now, previously had diesel Mondeo's etc as i do a 27mile commute each way for work and they gave what i thought was good mileage - average was 45mpg.

 

I just filled up my first tank in the Skoda and Fuelly tracking site is telling me 54.5mpg - pretty much exactly what the trip computer reads - I was very impressed with this, along with the low road tax and lower insurance premiums it all adds up to motoring economy

 

I miss some of the luxury of the Mondeo - heated screen, cruise, ultra comfy seats but the little Skoda is almost as comfy, the engine is silent, and i can live without cruise although the dealer (Harlow) did say they can easily retro-fit it for £500 any time.

 

The Skoda is a 1yo base model, ex dealer, maybe next time a model slightly higher than base but all-in-all I love it so far.

I had a base model SB rental last year, and I did miss some of the stuff that on my Toledo SE.

Still, the SB had cruise and for long distances that's the only extra I really want.  I was less chuffed with the basic Superb I got from Hertz a few months later that didn't have it. It made the whole journey a chore.

Yeah, we holiday in the UK so we get a long drive a couple times a year, the work commute is half stop-start and half fast road so not really worth using cruise on.

 

I'll keep it as an option, its not too much if i really want it later on.

 

I must admit, for a base level car, the ride is damn good and that 1.2tsi is a perky little engine

Went to the same dealer today, was considering a Fabia or Fabia Estate but came away having put a deposit on a 2016 Rapid 1.4 TSI SE. They only got it yesterday so not even prepared yet. More than enough car for the wife.

Collecting in a week. Any advice gladly accepted.

Can't really give much advise as new to Skoda, i take it you had a test-drive? I took my one out with the guy for about 45 mins  to give it a good work out as i was sceptical of the small engine having come from big diesels, I was not disappointed, as they say - I liked it so much i bought it

 

I'm sure your wife will love it, the rapid is a good size car.
