2 cylinder mode ?

Featured Replies

Is it always the same 2 cylinders and how are they shut down ?

If so does this effect their overall wear and tear ?

Yes same cylinders, i will post the link to the thread recently in the Superb section with a video.

It should not affect their overall wear, the pistons are still moving, and lubricated,

but we are talking VW Group engines so it takes time to find out.

EDIT,

Sorry cant find the recent thread.

Here is the video.

Thanks to all of you for the info, technology a little above my head. I actually was refering to the wear and tear on the cylinders doing the work. but now I wonder how long the cams will last with this extra workload on both sets of cylinders

I wonder just how correct VW / NGK managed to get the spark plugs that are in all 4 cylinders but not all 4 doing the same work.

Seems so far no reports of major failures, just maybe the need for a change in Service Schedule / Guidelines.

As it is the 1.4TSI is going, the 1.5tsi will be meeting testing conditions coming in in September, and no more Co2 g/km Implausible / Irregularities.

ie VW Group EU Test cheating.

You are overthinking it.

It only goes into 2 cylinder mode when under very light load, so the wear on the two active cylinders is not likely to be much.

I agree, the merest brush of the throttle will bring in the other two cylinders.

As you only need a small amount of power to keep the car rolling why not halve the power?
