Variable Boot Floor - Aftermarket Solution

Featured Replies

Hiya Everyone,

So I am picking my new (to me) car up in a weeks time, super excited...can't wait

It doesn't unfortunately  come with the variable boot floor option, with 2 dogs to carry around I think this option would have been nice as I can stow all the dogs leads and harnesses and the occasional muddy/sodden towel under the floor and then the 2 pooches don't have any boot lip to contend with...coming from a MKII Estate I was surprised the MKIII didn't have a flat load lip as it previously did.

Bit of a miss really but I am sure there is some engineering answer to this.

Can this be added as a aftermarket purchase?

Or indeed has anyone come up with an ingenious solution ?

Many Thanks

Ben

The MKII only had a flat load lip with the VBF, otherwise there was a lip dropping into the boot... just like the MKIII

Can’t see any reason why you cannot retrofit the VBF though.

I'm in the same position - due to impatience I didn't specify a variable boot floor, yet have a dog and all the related paraphernalia you mention.

I never could find an aftermarket option, although if you're handy with wood/mdf I'm sure you could rig something up.

Having said that, I found I don't need it. There's a very large cubby-hole on either side of the boot, complete with 'doors'. These swallow any number of leads, harnesses, water bottles, clean towels one side, muddy ones on the other etc.... I'd quite like the raised floor to save my dodgy back when lifting the (senior) dog out, but I've found no need for it from a storage perspective.

PS: I'd recommend a bumper protector of some kind if your two are likely to be keen to enter/exit. The top of the bumper makes a great step (in a dogs opinion) and is prone to scratching if not protected...

Point taken ...

Mine never had a VBF but did have the rail system in it but having said that there was a slight dip between the aluminium plate and the floor but not as much as the MKIII.. ...

I will miss my MKII as its gone to a new owner.....and I am awaiting the day I can pick my new one up

Here's what I have to wait 10 more days for

All the Best

I don't have VBF.

What I can't believe is the step that appears when the seats are folded flat. I've never had an estate car that didn't have a flat load area with the seats down.

YEP, I think the mkIII internal use of space is a step back from the mkII. Why do the seats not fold flat ??? it may have a large load area but you cant carry any thing large in it due to the non flat load bay.

The seats don't fold flat as the cushions are no longer hinged to lift out of the way as per the MkII - probably as a cost cutting exercise.

I have the VBF in my MkIII and I think it is too fragile, too fiddly and a waste of money.

I agree the MkII had a better use of space regardless of the stats on volume.
