I'm assuming it's a diesel, it'll be an interrupted DPF re-gen.  Very Common and completely normal.  Have a look at the sticky at the top of this section.

@ Clive1 - if it is a diesel check the thread above about rubber smell. Sounds like a regeneration to me.

As said above, read this:

No need to ring the dealer.

This is completely normal. It will be a DPF re-gen running which when the engine is running, disables stop start and revs stay at 1000.

If the engine is switched off, you will hear the fans and smell as it carries on if interrupted. Usually takes about 5 mins or so.

Nothing at all to worry about :)

You will hear of some people telling you to go on a long drive until it's finished but ignore this as it's not needed and designed to carry on if interrupted.

Thank you so much guys very helpful

No worries. Easy to get alarmed when the car is new and it starts doing this.

Enjoy the car and don't worry about the DPF, it will look after itself. There's lots of horror stories about them and I've been through hassle with one on an older car myself. Newer ones are more advanced and give less hassle.

Never ignore the warning light if it ever does come on though :)

It's all ok guys just been talking to the engineer from Skoda Liverpool and it's just getting rid of the carbon in the system. Technology in cars these days are magic .but thank you so much for all your help and information.

Best Wishes

The only down side to the dpf is you need to avoid to many short journeys or the dpf will start to become a problem, for me it's OK as my shortest one way journey is at least 14 miles and my usual at least 30 miles, to many interrupted regens and you will damage the dpf, by this I mean turning the engine off before a regeneration is complete, if you interrupt 3 or 4 in a row you have to go straight to the dealer's for a forced regeneration and hope it will recover the dpf box, if not it is an expensive repair bill.

If you do a lot of miles then regens are nothing to worry about, just let the dpf take care of itself, no need to worry about interrupting the odd regen as the system will take care of it on your next journey.

Never understand why the sales person doesn't explain this at handover.

Should be mandatory.
