Will these fit?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looking at some new shoes for the Fabia VRS.

Spec is as follows:

7.5 x 17 ET 40

Can you tell me if these would fit ok? And what tyres would i be looking at for this size? 205/40/17?

Thanks in advance

Nick

They'll be more like flip-flops than shoes, I'm guessing all the roads are billiard table smooth in Wiltshire, either that or you don't care what happens to your internal organs.

It doesn't get driven very regularly.

So will they fit? That's the question.

They will almost certainly fit. They are at the high end of 17" ET. For perfection you want something like ET37 but it also depends how the back of the wheel is shaped and what suspension and brakes you have fitted. And they need to be 57.1mm centre bore although most 5x100mm stud spacing wheels will be 57.1mm as all the 66.6mm centre bore wheels I'm aware of are 5x112mm stud spacing.

I don't understand this comment. For well over 10 years people have been fitting Octavia vRS, Audi TT and then Mk II Fabia vRS wheels with 205/40/R17 or 215/40/R17 tyres and they're fine. There is so much suspension travel that the increase in sidewall stiffness from the lower profile 17" tyre has a negligible effect on ride quality.

Most of the spring kits on the market are variable rate and the Eibach Pro kit is much softer on the initial travel than the standard spring. Couple that to the 17" tyre and Koni FSD shock absorbers and you get a comfier ride than standard.

I am simply relating my experience with low profile tyres on my Fabias, I had a set of 16" VRS alloys fitted and they were horribly uncomfortable with 205/45, so christ knows what 205/40 must feel like. Bear in mind that I'm on B12's which are of equivalent quality and I've gone back down to 15" wheels with 195/50 and the handling and ride are far superior.

I'm not theorycrafting, and my car is for driving, not looking at.

Thanks chap. I actually just found a website where you can add the dimensions/offsets etc and compare with standard set up.

Judging by the dimensions these will be basically the same as a set of Octavia spiders, but will stick out a teeny bit more. All good!

As Wja96 says for 5 years Skoda were fitting 205/40 R 17 to Fabia Mk2 vRS & Monte Carlo's but 215/40 R 17's to sister cars from VW, Audi & Seat.

(Mk3 Fabia got 215/40 R17 tyres with Option 17" rims.)

for 5-7 years plenty Skoda Fabia Mk2 drivers have complained of hard and crashy rides and have been fitting 16" rims & the correct tyre size, or sticking with 17's & fitting the 215/40 R 17 tyres to try and help this crashy hard ride as they feel the car has,

and also fitting 205/45 R 17's which actually do help give a bit more sidewall and a ride some prefer.
