Oil leak(s) on vRS

Featured Replies

Noticed my vRS is leaking oil so took off the undertray whilst changing the console bushes today, there seems to be 2 oil leaks.

The first is from the pipes leading to the intercooler, a drip from the lowest pipe on the joint, and a drip from the joint on the pipe nearer the turbo.

The second leak is all around the sump. It seems it may be coming from the gaps between the engine and bell housing.

It's engine oil not gearbox oil and is also present from the front of the sump where the oil cooler is mounted.

Anyone know if this is likely to be the crank main seal or the sump seal?

In terms of the leak on the boost pipes, the turbo is quiet and only smokes slightly on startup (although this may be because the previous owner used the car for short journeys taking kids to school.)

Your boost pipes are only leaking because your intercooler is doing double-duty as an auxiliary sump.

That much oil will be the sump gasket seal, if it were the crank seal your bellhousing would be coated with oil being flung everywhere by the flywheel and your clutch would slip horribly.

@clarendon462 - Pretty much as @sepulchrave says; your turbo oil seals may be starting to leak, but given the other leak whether or not this requires any work other than draining the intercooler is presently hard to establish.

As selp said it's very common for you boost hose to leak. The ccv is vented in the intake and the oil mist will collect at that point. Nothing to really worry about but you can do the elephant hose mode to stop it.

Cheers for that, just been reading some of the posts on the elephant mod so thats something I will be considering doing. The oil on the sump could well be the sump plug having a slow leak and the oil just travelling across the surface of the sump.

Any idea where I can get the correct replacement sump plug from?

Check the sump isn't cracked from an over tightened plug, it's very common.
