Rear seat armrest options?

I've had a search but haven't come across anything on whether or not the rear seat drop down arm rest can be swapped out and fitted with cup holders etc.

 

As far as I can tell the drop down armrest opens up to a foam padded compartment that stores, well not a lot really, and wondered if there are any retrofitted alternatives available.

I find the arm rest cubby really useful as I store duplicate MoT and insurance docs, spare lead and harness for the dog, spare glasses, a Gerber multitool  and a few other handy odds and ends. 

 

In some markets the drop down storage below the rear passenger air vents contained pop out  cup holders, which may be easier to install than the armrest.

The rear armrest is very easy to remove. The whole assembly is held with just two large screws. It wouldn't surprise me if the armrest from another VAG group car with eg cup holders could be swapped over. 

 

I used mine mine to keep the handbook and service record in to free up space in the glovebox.

I have been thinking of doing something similar as I find the lack of rear cup holders in the Octavia really annoying (or I should say my daughter finds it annoying) So far I have found that the arm rest from an Audi A3 8P arrears to be the same shape but finding one with the cup holders in is proving difficult. There is one on ebay for £45 but it is a bit too much for me to spend on an experiment. The other option it to buy the parts from skoda to fit the cup holders above the rear ash tray if you have the maxi box arm rest in the front

Actually the Superb Mk2(3T)'s armrest is the same shape as Octavia Mk2, but with 2 retractable cup holders and a smaller storage area. Just need to find one with the same trim as yours.

I had something similar to this installed in my Honda Civic. Used it when stopping off for breaks/watching DVD's when driving too and from Gib, and on various road trips around UK and Europe. 

Unfortunately I forgot to remove it when I sold the car. :(

Are you referring to the centre-console arm rest between the front seats, or the rear seats/bench arm rest?  Is 3T pre or facelift mk2 Superb?  Cheers
