Hunter wheel alignment price

Recommended Posts

Hey all

My MKII VRS tdi last had this done early 2015 when I bought a complete set of Goodyear AS2's. I feel I should be getting this checked again now as it's quite obviously been a while and wish to have the rears rotated (same axle) to the front to preserve wear.

Awesome gti have quoted me £100 including adjustments. Tyres move comes out at £34.50. Does that sound fair/right?

Can't remember what I paid last alignment so unfortunately, can't do a comparitive.

I'd appreciate your opinions on whether it's a good idea to swap fronts/rears but I reckon it saves me forking out for 4 new tyres again.  Also, are there any other reputable specialists from experience I should consider.

Thanks.

My car was wearing the tyres out on the inside edge rears due to the alignment being out. The knackered bearing sound was awful actually. I used an accident/repair centre close to me as they have the equipment and locally are highly rated. They had a standard fixed fee of £95 full alignment. No extra charges for adjustments which tbh I've never understood. I also got a before/after printout as well. The steering wheel was Off centre when it went in but bang in the middle afterwards and drives lovely. Gives you an idea of price. £100 seems steep plus any adjustments on top.

I always get this done when swapping from Cold Weather steelies to Summer Alloys and back again. On the most recent occasion local Škoda dealer charged flat rate of £60.assured me it was a Hunter Four Wheel Alignment. Never got a before or after printout.

Have a look on Wowcher or Groupon and see if there is a local deal. Via above I got the swap done at Infiniti Braehead for £60 (they now charge an hourly rate of £100+ph, my last visit to them took 2.5hrs!) and Taggarts Jaguar, again at £75.

Whoever you use, ensure of the full price. Some don't quote a 'plus adjustment' fees or other incidentals. Also, I tend to get charged 15 - 30 minutes labour rate to swap wheels over.

Cheers for the replies guys. I honestly don't have the facility or room to swap the wheels although I could ask a mate. However, we all know the 'yeah I'll do it next week' bla bla only for it to be a gazillion weeks later :D

That is why I asked for the price prior to an alignment. Tbh, checking some previous queries/posts threw up some suggestions to try an F1 auto centre, the nearest being Crewe. I might give them a buzz and see what sorts of prices I get with the exact same query.

Apparently, awesome gti get some rave reviews so I guess it's just weighing up what I'm prepared to pay and taking that leap of faith in the company I choose.

Price is about right for the alignment. As for swapping the tyres, industry advice is to have the tyres with the most tread on the rear.  When fitting new tyres to police cars the policy is new tyres go on the rear and the rears to the front.

As a collision investigator, crashes where tyres have been a contributing factor have all featured worn or under inflated rear tyres.

My my advice would be wear out the fronts, buy two new tyres and put them on the rear and move the rears forwards.

Cue the internet experts who will contradict that and that and draw your own opinions but for safety sake I wouldn't.

Prices for a full Hunter alignment seem to vary wildly.  I paid £45, including adjustments at front and rear and received before/after printouts.
