Rear shock question?

Featured Replies

I need to change rear shocks on Fabia mk1, i am curious what are these two parts , item 14 and item 2. Are these parts vital?

I don't see those parts on this clip,

Item 2 is a snap ring which sits against the top mount hole. It will already be fitted to the new damper rod. Item 14 is the top cap of the damper tube :)

No, the new shock will come with one fitted.

Both parts are already on the new shocks.

Thanks a lot!

What do you think about  Kayaba? Is it a good choice or to go for Sachs?

KYB is fine. Sachs are probably a little better but it depends how much you want to spend.

Au contraire, I think the KYB Excel are a better product than Sachs, I nearly bought a set but the Billys came up at the right price with Eibach springs so...

^ Fair enough

+1 for Sachs/Boge- good quality for money, if there's no extra demands from shock absorbers.

In LV they costs ~same as KYB / ~same as standard Bilstein.

Anyway, LV roads will kill anything- it's just a Q of few months forth/back...

SACHS and Kayaba are around same price, Bilstein is cheaper.

Do you think is there any difference between aftermarket SACHS or KYB and shocks that came with car? Genuine part from first install or after market from these manufacturers?

The easy answer will be that as time moves on, damper manufacturers evolve their products, either due to market trends or method of producing these items.

So, I would not expect that you could buy from Skoda dealer an identical damper to the one currently fitted from factory.

I'd reckon that it should now only be down to price, if your Skoda dealer for some crazy reason is selling Sachs damper cheaper than Sachs elsewhere just buy from them.

I tend to record manufacturer's part numbers and VW Group part numbers etc of bits that will need replaced while I own the car, as soon as I get a car - but invariably as time goes on, checking up on that part's web catalogue I find that these numbers have been superseded. (I live a boring and predictably life maybe!)

I've just fit 2 new sachs struts to the rear of mine. First timer with a break in the middle for my tea (fish pie )

Took two and a half hours on the roadside including break. nothing difficult to do, the video explains everything. Torque settings found here

I hope you didn't fully tighten the bottom bolts until the car was back on the wheels & "bounced" as per my post in that thread you linked to...

Ha ha of course I did!

Car feels awesome now. I had been driving on a broken shock absorber for a couple of months
