I'm possibly looking soon to purchase this Scout 1.8 TSI, well it's on my shortlist anyway, just noticed from the online photos that there appears to be some heat damage to the trim from the exhaust, it's discoloured anyway, should this be something I need to be asking specific questions about regarding the engine etc?

 

The car in question is a 2010 1.8 TSI with 2 owners full history and 65k, it looks clean form the photos but as yet I've not been to look at it.

 

Any pointers on this would be most helpful cheers.

 

Anyone comment? the trim surrounding the exhaust is pretty tarnished, much like a diesel might get but this is a 65K 1.8 TSI with full service history apparently, it can't be just dirt, looks as if it's exhaust emissions contaminated the silver trim, but what would do this? I take it it's not normal?

 

Looking at photo's of other 1.8 tsi's online I can't see this at all just don't want to walk into issues....

It'd have me asking whether this is or has been a bad oil burner - loads said on this forum about earlier oil burning 1.8 tsi's. Oil can eventully stain plastic.

Thanks bigjohn lots of good info there, tbh with this and the possible timing chain issues I'm somewhat sceptical now about looking to purchase another Octavia especially a TSI.
