Just been checking tyres.... Rainsport 3 XL?

Featured Replies

Little brother mentioned Asdatyres, so I had a browse alongside my usual haunt... bestbuytyres.

What seems to stand out is uniroyal Rainsport 3 Extra Load. They get a "C" for fuel efficiency rather than the "E" of the standards. Or the "F" of the Pirellis I was also mooting.

I'm tempted to pull the trigger on a set. Only foible is the RS2s I had were very squishy in the sidewall. Comfy, yes, but hardly sporting, they introduced a softness and heaviness to the steering feel.

"eXtra Load" tyres will always have stiffer sidewalls than "normal" ones. I'd ignore tyre performance data between different makes because those data are all self-certified.

I got Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance on mine for about £50 per corner and they made a massive difference over the Pirelli's previously on there.

In the wet, it still sticks to the road like muck to a shovel and they help stop you kerbing the alloys as well.

Can you provide a link as I can't find them for £50 a corner. More like £100+ a corner.

It was about this time last year from a local tyre place that seems like they were linked up to someone bigger as I could order online.

I've had Rainsport 3's on mine for 3 years now and just bought a new set this week.

They're a great all round tyre and brilliant in the wet. Can't complain at all. Everyone has their own preference to tyres.

Some people find normal Rainsports have soft sidewalls and may be more prone to punctures. The Extra load ones will be better as they will be stiffer. I've had normal RS3s and had no complaints with steering feel or grip, however being soft they didn't last long (Summer only). I preferred the RS2s for wear and gave just as good grip.

I found the car moved about more on the tyres and took longer to settle on the RS2s. "Fun" when they're on the back and you want that tail to wag a little, but ultimately, less "quick" than a full set of ER300s or ER300XL.
