Heater blower resistor

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I have a Spaceback 2013 model, the blower has stopped working on Friday evening, apart from on the top setting. I've seen, thanks to Mr. Google, that this is a resistor issue. Has anyone changed this on their spaceback? I've looked for info on the resistor type online, can't find much, and can't find any DIY info/guides either. Had a look under the glovebox for it, not sure what I'm looking for to be honest, but I did find the airfilter, which was a nice surprise.

Located on top near the fan. Adjacent to the upper end of the pollen filter.

Probably removing the glove box assembly will give you the required access.

Spiz, thank you very very much. Really appreciate the help. Is removing the glove box assembly easy to Do?

Glove box removes easily. Torx bit required. Remove slowly and disconnect plug from glovebox light whilst half out.

I noticed when looking for images of something else VAG related that a lot of those resistor packs came up.

is this a common fault by any chance? if so why are the dealers not replacing them?

and why in the 21st century when we have modern switch mode voltage regulator circuits are car manufacturers still using high wattage resistors to limit the fan speed?

Rotate the resistor to remove.
