Sensor for evaporater outlet temp ....

So I repaired the heated seat and thought I'd got to the end of the faults in my wife's Fabia ... wrong !!!

I had this fault code previously "Address 8 One fault found 00818 sensor for evaporater outlet temp (G263) 30-10 Open or short to B+ intermittent." & cleared it with vagcom but now after three months, it's come back again ! :(

It's not even as if I've been using the aircon in this weather so I don't even know what the effects of having this sensor faulty would be ?

I know that the evaparator outlet temp sensor is located somewhere up under the dash in the right side footwell and apparently it's a right sod to get to ! :mad:

I've read that one side of it is earthed along with the ambient temp sensor in the front bumper area somewhere.

Can anyone confirm this and tell me where exactly it's earthed?

Obviously as the fault is intermittent I'd like to check the earthing point first as a possible source of the fault before I go replacing the sensor.

Lummox kindly gave me some advice previously (which unfortunately I've now mislaid) about getting the sensor out and how difficult it was likely to be. I remember he said that there's a good chance I'd break some bracket or other trying to get to it! (What bracket was that again Lummox ? I'll get one when I get a new sensor).

Anyway, I'd be interested to hear from anyone who can tell me where the earthing point mentioned is (if it exsts) or anyone who has attempted to change this sensor before and how they tackled it.

Well, I can see the sensor I need to change (35a in the diagram below) but not sure what it's mounted to & how to release it ..... anyone ?

This failed on mine and it was a dash out job :( I don't remember it being mounted to anything in particular, but Lummox tells me if you don't mind grazing your fingers, it can be removed with the dash in place. I got a friendly Briskodian to change it for me and he removed and refitted all the trim in a couple of hours, whereas I think official Skoda book time is closer to 3 hours.

The effect of not having it working correctly is that it has no idea of the correct temperature so may switch the air-con on when it's cold, or not switch it on when it was hot. Mine failed over the summer :(

Seems to be a common fault once the Fabia gets to the 3 years/60k mile age :D

The sensor is just rotated and pushed into the upper heater box.

To get in out you need to remove the dash under tray on the drivers side, unclip the clutch switch, slide out the CDL ECU and its bracket and then stuff your hand up the top to get to it. Whole job takes 1/2 hour max start to finish.

1/2 hour max ! ..... aye right, it took me 35 minutes today to do the job & I was working flat out ! :D

It actually took me more like an hour and a half . :o

That CDL ECU bracket's a nightmare until you realise how it comes out & as for working under the dash while lying on your back, upside down bent back over the door sill, well it isn't the most comfortable position in the world ! :mad:

Not the nicest of jobs to do, I might just manage it in an hour if I were to do it again (hopefully not !) but no way could I ever match your 30 mins Ross ........... big respect mate ! :bowdown1:

Anyway, mission acomplished & thanks again for your advice it made the job so much easier than it could have been if I'd gone down the complete dashboard removal route ! :confused:

Ah this must be the quick way to do it, rather than the 3-hour dash-out job the dealer quoted me for! :rofl:

I'm on holiday at the moment Stu & well I'd been kind off putting that one off ! :D

At least the list is now down to zero that is unless I fancy retro-fitting cruise again, hmm ! :rubchin:
