Padded cycling shorts

Featured Replies

Might be a silly question, but padding on the inside or outside when you have them on?

i thought inside, but I've got another pair where the label suggests padding goes on the outside.

Does it matter?

Gaz

Inside usually, they look bad enough as it is.

I prefer the padded boxer short style so that you can wear whatever shorts you wish.

Yep, that's what I use.  I've just got a pair of these:

Dunno what sizing scale they use but for XXL they're rather snug :wondering:

Also got these while I was at it:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MTB-Cycling-Short-Off-Road-Cycle-Anti-Bac-CoolMax-Padded-Liner-Shorts-Dimex-NEW-/131405055187?var=&hash=item1e985a04d3:m:m53w8HFtKN7s8ahvnOQPvLg

Great for the number of pockets.  But they're undoubtedly waterproof and I'd give them a zero for breathability.  I'll use them, but lesson learned and I'd rather pay double the price and get some more Altura ones - so much better.

Can you not just put a pair of Socks down the front Gaz, or may be 2 pairs............

I think the pictures are just to showing the shorts inside out so you can see where the pads sit when in a riding position.

It's cycling, anyone over 10st and 28" waist will be classed as fat and at least an XL.

The MTB shorts look pretty good, you'll have to let us know how you get on.

Endura Humvee are the best MTB shorts I've used - and the 3/4 length ones are nice if you are taller.

For proper lycra then go for bib shorts as they don't slip down and are much more comfy. I've a few pairs of Altura ones which are fine for 60+ miles and not crazy prices like Assos and Rapha. Also, XL Altura fit my 100kg 1m86 frame, in Rapha I'd be an XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL :)

Fat lad at the Back make good quality kit that actually fits if you are a normal size person rather than some weight-wenie cyclist with legs like treetrunks and arms like twiglets..... They also do 'stealth' kit if you dont want 'Fat lad at the Back' plastered all over it.

Padding on the inside of course!!!!   And don't wear undies with them either unless you're a massive fan of chaffing.

As above, bib shorts are best.  Have a look on Wiggle at their own brand (DHB) or if you have a Decathlon next to you check out their own brand (B'Twin)

I have some Decathlon bib shorts and find them really comfortable.  Their pricing is really good too.

Ta.  At a little over 6'4" I reckon I'm in the 'taller' bracket [toddles off to look up Humvee].

That's definitely me then.  16st, 36/38" waist fatty :crying:

I am xxxl Super Tanker size then.

Endura Humvee Lite 3/4 baggy are just terrible IMO. I was so disappointed when they arrived.

I have Endura Zyme ll 3/4 and like them.

Some of the Madison shorts in XXl just fit me ie Zenith or Trail if i keep breathing in .

I get the padded cycle pants in xxl from Amazon, the big bloomers with blue padding for winter and the french knickers with the orange padding.

They use to come from China in about a week and were £3 a pair free postage,

now about £4 a pair and sometimes £3 postage each pair, or the same ones for about £8 from the UK and delivered in 2 or 3 days.

Worn with Asda or Tesco long cargo shorts when wet or dry and then the water proofs usually go on to keep the car seat cover clean.

Ordered another Brooks saddle yesterday as there was some pricing mistake on amazon so took a Flyer in brown for less than everyone else in the UK

were charging for B17's & it is coming from Germany.

I'd agree - weird the Humvee lite is poo but the normal Humvees are pretty good :-)

I'm similar sized and proportioned as you and i get xxl. I'd echo comments re DHB stuff - I have a fair few pairs of bib tights & shorts and they're great value for money. I have some Castelli stuff that costs probably 3-4 times as much and DHB is almost as good in quality and performance.

I'd also echo not wearing anything underneath, I use chamois cream if doing a long ride but always go commando!
