New to Skoda

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just signed up to buying a 2.0L TDI CR170 Elegance with 68K miles on it.  Can any member(s) please tell me what I can expect from my new car when it arrives from England?  What are the plus and negative points on the car and what can I really look forward to?

First of all - full service history.

If you've already signed up - it's too late to ask for negs ;)

But seriously - if it is in good condition - and DSG - you should be very happy :)

You should also think about chipping or mapping - more power and better economy.

Not many bad points really once its been looked after.  What year is it BTW? You can look forward to effortless cruising with the 170 engine and more spec than you'll need with Elegance trim.  Enjoy :)

I was new to Skoda last November with a 14 plate 4x4 Estate; can't comment on the 170 and DSG as I have the lowly 140 and manual :) but I have been more then pleased with the car and performance, and 4x4 has a nice driving feel when provoked out of corners and roundabouts, not sure I could look back from a 4x4 now...  About to get first MOT and the warranty will soon be out, but have sorted out a few issues under warranty which has been good, my dealer experience has been great. If you look for my thread '3 month update' I have solved a lot of annoying squeaks and rattles that you may encounter, and noted the warranty repairs.  Only upgrade so far has been LED lighting but considering a remap in due course and better discs and pads.  Actually, my only gripe has been the braking performance which seems underwhelming but adequate and seems to be a trait with the 4x4 models.  Looking at Black Diamond disks and pads in due course.  Bought a few things like mats etc from 'Superskoda' but plenty of options out there for accessories depending on what you want to do.  Anyway, enjoy the car when you get it !

Thanks for the replies guys, very much appreciated.  Sorry, it's a 5008 (58) plate, but looks minted and I note that Skoda have a 10 year anti corrosion penetration warranty.

Jafo, would you recommend chipping or re-mapping?

Get a proper remap, preferably on a rolling road. Tuning boxes are a terrible solution.

Re-map - you can't remove it and move to another car - with the same engine - in case of sale or accident.

Chip - maybe a bit less power than proper re-map - but isn't one-time purchase :)

Have access to chipped car - and owner - after more than 15k miles - have no problems at all - drive is smooth, engine is quiet, a lot better mpg and this torque :):):):) :) completely different car :) I have to wait till warranty runs out :(

Remap without rolling road is just a chip - as what is put into the ECU is just generic map that has nothing to do with the car it is uploaded to.

Bad re-map can be even worse than chip - as chip only fools sensors - and ECU still can go into limp mode - bad re-map can block safeguards.
