Upgrade Bolaro??

Featured Replies

Hi guys, so ive been wondering about upgrading my basic Bolaro unit to a Columbus or Amundsen+ since they are cheap and easy to do. The main thing thats bothering me is that my 2012 octy fl vrs dsg has extras that i wouldnt want to look while upgrading. For example, my bolaro has bluetooth audio, mic, steering controls, climate status and front and rear parking aid display fitted from factory. Now i no upgrading to one of the 2 units will need to be coded to make it show on maxidot etc but can i retain all these features with either unit? Im leaning towards the Amunden+ as its cheaper for me but will bt streaming and all that still work? Probably been asked a million times but id rather make sure before buying one aha. Cheers.

Not sure about the Amundsen+, but I've upgraded mine to a Columbus and it works out quite well so far. Bluetooth audio, mic, climate status, steering control, front & rear parking aid and maxidot info would all work with correct VCDS coding. It would also support rear view camera if you install one.

If you've already got Bluetooth I would go straight for a Columbus unit. Straight swap, but of coding and that's it. All original functionality that you describe is retained plus you get all the Columbus benefits.

I have a Columbus DAB unit for sale up in North Yorks. If you fancy a drive up I'll fit and code it for you free.

How much you wanting for it buddy? Don't mind the drive since its closer than waiting for one to cone from a different country aha

I had a bolero then a columbus (first and second yeti) now an amundsen and that is an improvement. Columbus was  very slow to boot up on starting in the morning too much "welcome to Skoda and too long to resume listening to the radio I was listening to before leaving the house amundsen quite a lot more like switching on the radio!

Also as a side note, does all models of the Columbus allow bt streaming if my car has it as standard, or is it only specific versions that will allow it to work even if bluetooth is fitted? Thanks.

Bluetooth streaming is possible on the Columbus. The early models may have had difficulty with doing so but later ones are fine. Much easier to put your music on the hard drive or on an sd card though.
