Getting a new one.

Love my mkIII SE L 2Litre TDi DSG Estate but have decided to trade in. Why? It's a diesel and my lifestyle no longer needs a diesel plus the rear of the estate gets really filthy very quickly.

Replacement will be (3 months from now) a mkIII facelift SE L 1.4TSi DSG Hatch with loads of unnecessary (according to SWMBO) extras i.e:-

temporary spare wheel, LED high rear lights, Columbus, trailer assist, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, tow-bar, race blue metallic, adaptive cruise control, heated steering wheel (do I want this? - no - but I want the ACC, heated front seats (do I want these  - no - but I want the AAC) - why-oh-why do they do this?

Ordered. Provisional delivery mid October. The long haul begins.

What's the name of the rust bucket that delivers to Sheerness again?

Really liked the diesel  but I mainly do short journeys now with little time for the longer runs the diesel needs so bitten the bullet and traded in.

Didn't go for the estate this time as I can't believe how filthy the tailgate gets even in the most ordinary weather.

Also I am towing a lot less because we moved to where we used to tow to; so don't really need the great lump of the diesel - slight increase in the £30 road tax though.

I don't mind the Combi rear window- ok with using the wiper occasionally. Are you sure your diesel was only £30

road tax? I paid ~ £240 for my old mk2 FL diesel.  Only £30 for my current petrol Combi though.

Anything between I think 110-119g/km is £30, which covers most of the diesel octavia range inc. the VRS, then it gradually starts to jump up due to the power/soot ratio increases - not too sure when these tax bands started but they changed earlier this year for new cars.

But for all new vehicles registered from 1st April 2017 (unless their CO2 emissions are 0g/km) there is a flat rate of £140 for petrol or diesel or £130 for hybrid, bioethanol or LPG.

I think this is the pre-facelift model. My 2016 model Octavia was delivered to Sheerness by the Gran Canaria but that seems to be doing different journeys now.

Definitely £30 road tax. Wow! -  When I get my new Octavia I will get a partial refund - now what can I do with fifteen quid?

Why not order the new 1.5 TSi?

Because it ain't DSG I asked at Meaden's.

Confused about old/new tax regime.

Hope you enjoy the new car.

New tax regime - old = not to bad; new = expensive!

New tax regime from 1st April 2017:

First Year

Sliding scale based on CO2 from £0 to £2000

Emissions Year 1+

0 g/km CO2 = £0

1+ g/km CO2 petrol or diesel = £140

1 g/km hybrid, LPG or bioethanol = £130

Value Years 1-6

If list price over £40,000 then years 1 to 6 an additional £310

Well its all relative. If I had bought my new Yeti prior to the change it was £185 a year? now its £200 year 1 and £140 thereafter, so actually less over the period I am likely to own it.

Conversely previous Greenline would stay at £30 for life of vehicle, and my wifes Fabia is only £20 ayear.

However if you bought a Ford Mustang prior to the change it was £1150 per year, now its £2000 year 1 and £140 after that; almost worth it now if I could afford the fuel!!
