Smartlink on Columbus MIB 1?

Featured Replies

I recently bought a used Octavia 3 from June 2013 and while it has Columbus, it lacks Smartlink. Are there chances for me to enable Smartlink on this configuration?

Not on MIB1 only MIB2 from 2015.

Ouch. Is there any difference between MIB1 and MIB2 hardware-wise? Or is it just a software upgrade between them?

Google it, plenty of info out there.

MIB2 is a faster processor and higher resolution screen.

MIB1 and MIB2 use the same screen. It's not a higher resolution screen, but may be displaying at a higher resolution.

Nope, same size MIB1 and MIB2 Columbus, same part number etc. Only the latest Columbus units in the 2017 cars are a bigger screen.

So if they are the same part number, is there a difference between the CPU and all?

The screen is simply the monitor and input device which sits in the dash. The brain box sits in the glove box and connects to it. MIB1 and MIB2 brain box's are different but both connect to the same screen. If you want to upgrade from an MIB1 Columbus to an MIB2 then you can use the existing screen. If you have an MIB1 Amundsen and want to upgrade to MIB2 Amundsen then you need to change the screen, because Amundsen is different.

The complete system has two components: the screen, that lies on the center console and has the same part number for MIB1 and MIB2 systems and the "brain" unit, that lies on the glovebox.

If you have a MIB1 Columbus, you can probably get away with replacing only the glovebox unit, if you find someone/somewhere that is willing to pair the new unit with the car.

We replied at the same time :)

If you dig deep enough in the Green Engineering Menu settings, it appears that the software code is there for MirrorLink on the MIB1 Columbus, but I could never find a way of actually enabling it .........

MirrorLink isn't that good anyway.

No, but AndroidAuto is ;)
