Thinking of rejoining the Skoda Family...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Seriously considering selling my Golf, even tho I've put a lot of money in to it, and buying myself a nice Octavia VRS. Petrol or Diesel, hatch or estate. Not to fussed.

Just wanted to know if there is anything particular that i should look out for when i go to view them?

Cheers, Adam

Sorry for all the post.

Just done a mot history check and looks likes it's been in a nearside front shunt. Nearside bushes in way out, nearside wheel bearing, nearside sill damage.

So the search continues.

Thanks, Adam

If looking at diesel then at that age / mileage find one with the DPF professionaly removed and mapped out.

The PD170 is thoroughly let down reliability wise by the diesel particulate filter.

Thanks mate, is it expensive to get it removed and mapped out if it hasn't already been done?

Prices vary, as does the quality of the work.

It is important to use a reputable place especially when it comes to the map.

You really can't get much better than Shark, their DPF delete and stage 0 map (no extra performance) was around £500 last time I checked.

Well worth it though, the PD170 gets a bad rep but almost all issues are in someway related to the particulate filter, especially on older cars.

A DPF-less vRS is a revelation.

Just be sure to do your homework around DPF removal and the MOT/insurance.

It wouldn't stop me but it is important you understand the risks.

I fully understand what you mean mate, I've read a bit about them and they defo need removing.

The place who custom remapped my Golf will do a stage 1 remap, egr delete and dpf delete for £599 or dpf delete and egr removal for £399. They have a good rep and the custom remap in my car has been faultless.

It's ADE Tuning for anybody interested.

I've decided I want a Diesel VRS now, just need to get my Golf sold.

Is there no other faults that I should look out for? Or just the usual, bushes etc.

215bhp 492nm stage 1 remap.

That torque seems to be rather high. Does the 1st stage offer that much from the starting 350 Nm?

yeah definitely not right:

Stage 1
Tuned BHP 199-205
Tuned Nm~420

even at stage 2 you're looking at 450/60

I need to find one local to me with stage 1 remap so i can see if i like it. I can imagine its going to be similar performance to my Golf. Just quite a bit less torpue.

Still looking for any help on what to look out for, will be going for a TFSI. Is there anything specific i should look out for other than the normal service items.
