Pre and post facelift rear end identical, no?

Featured Replies

Just a quick question about the back of the Mk2. From what I can see, both pre and post facelift variants have the same rear end. Is this correct. I'm asking as I'd like to upgrade my number plate lights to LED, but don't want to use the bulbs off eBay. I found these https://www.auto-lighting.co.uk/product-eng-5832-Skoda-Octavia-MK2-CanBus-License-Licence-Number-Plate-LED-Lamp-Light.html but it says they are for facelift 08 >. As far as I can see they look identical to the ones on my 07 VRS. Anyone know the answer?

Yes.

The rear light clusters look different but I don't know if they are interchangeable.

Rear light clusters are different but are interchangeable. Note however IIRC that FL cluster has no red reflector so in U.K. at least can't be used unless you have red reflector in bumper.

The vRS 'bumpers' both have the same part number iirc.

I was talking about the little lamps above the number plate, not the actual rear light clusters. Anyway, the answer (having now received the replacements) is that they are NOT the same.

The ones on the facelift Mk2 are slightly wider and the holes for the screws are both a little further apart and lower. Just further apart and lower enough, as luck would have it, to drill new holes for them. So I did. And I trimmed the sides down using the original rubber gaskets as a template. I also reused these as they were in good condition and the new lights came with foam gaskets. Luckily, the connectors are still the same. And interestingly, although the new lights came with plug-in resistors to overcome CANBUS issues, I didn't need to use them as the pre-facelift MK2, at least, doesn't seem to monitor the bulbs for the license plate lights. And here's how it came out.
