VRS - some warning lights not coming on with ignition

Featured Replies

Some advice please, switch ignition on and the asr, the abs and the airbag lights don't come on at all?
Car drives fine and no other warning lights come on.

Only other thing is car locks itself sometimes and the window switches are sometimes intermittent.

Any ideas?

Cheers all

1) BITE lights do not display on switch on: This is an MoT failure because it may be masking ABS and/or Airbag failures. You need to investigate with a good fault code reader, and may also need to replace the bulbs.

2) Intermittent locking and/or window problems point to issues with the wiring in/to the driver's door for the most part. This needs a physical investigation to progress further, but I'd expect corroded contacts in the door and/or broken wiring in the A-post.

Thanks for the reply,

they are bulbs then rather than leds?

Will investigate the door wiring. it seemed to happen (locking) a few times when opening front passenger door?

The dash lights are all LEDs. There are no conventional bulbs.

The car locking itself can be due to a failing microswitch in the drivers door lock unit (very common fault). There would be other symptoms such as lights-on warning bleeper not always working when the sidelights are on and drivers door opened. Interior light not always coming on when drivers door opened. Boot lid not always opening unless another door other than drivers is opened first.

Sounds like some lovely person has snapped the LED's off the cluster in order to hide the fault to sell the car.

OK here's an update,  sorry for the delay.

So after getting the car into my garage and doing a basic oil and filters service along with a good clean....

I took the dash out to find some one had blacked out all the warning light leds so I scraped off the thick black paint and refitted the dash. (Luckily no damage had been done just thick black paint)

Scanned with a decent autologic scanner and cleared all the faults I found, I was left with one, NSR abs sensor, I sorted the simple wiring issue and now its been running with all the lights functioning as normal for about three weeks.

Very bizarre, makes me worry about some places as this was done by a professional (really?) garage, wtf is wrong with some people ?!

Thanks for the tips anyway and my partner is very happy with her fabia, I am too and will probably get myself one :)

Remember that statistically one in four people you meet will be of below average intelligence, I've found that most of them are in the motor trade.

@Roo_VRS - I'm pleased to see I was on the right lines, and surprised to find that the bodge was even bodgier that I expected! If I might make a suggestion, avoid the garage that did the last MoT!

At least they hadn't butchered the LEDs which is something I suppose.

I informed the guy I bought it from, he was very angry as he paid them considerable amounts to deal with abs and traction control faults.

it seemed they fixed the faults but decided to black the LED's instead of just clearing the codes!
