Citigo engine oil

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is it best practice to use Synthetic Oil in the Citigo?

And, what grade of oil is recommended?

thank you.

Not best practice it is the Spec you need Full Synthetic not Semi Synthetic.

It will be VW 504 00 which is 5w 30 Full Synthetic long life oil, and that is in from the factory and what main dealers use.

(Castrol / Quantum or others)

VW502 00 5w 40 Full Synthetic is fine for Fixed Servicing but Dealership will tell you not most likely.

Thank you for the info, your so helpful Mr Awayoffski.

0w30 Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L is also a 504/507 suitable oil and is what is currently in mine according to the dealer who last serviced (Vindis Cambridge).

5w30 will be more commonly used though and Quantum Longlife 3 is probably the best value option. It's what will be going in mine on Friday.

Thank you for the info.

Quantum long life oil might be the best value option for Dealers and people having Variable / Flexible servicing and that need Long Life oil, but not necessarily long living engines.

If you do a oil & filter change and do not want Long Life oil, or need to use it, then it is not the best oil because it is called Long Life and costs just a little more or even the same, it is there because Fleet Leasers and the Manufacturers wanted an oil suitable for Variable / Flexible service intervals.

Thank you for advice.

For fixed intervals W502 00. 0w-30 seems to work better than 5w-40. I have tried both. I had some valve lifter noise with 5w-40 in cold weather.

For the UK the 2014 owners handbook specified VW 502.00, with VW 504.00 (longlife) optional.

I am using a VW 504.00/507.00 oil (Castrol Edge 5W-30) for top-ups  because I have some left over from previous VAG cars (and BMW/MINI cars - LL04 spec).

Winter in England tends to be quite mild nowadays and I have not been troubled with lifter noise (yet!). I can imagine that it is somewhat colder in Finland though and I will certainly bear this in mind. Thanks.
