Skoda body and paint repair

Featured Replies

Unfortunately, some feral teenager this morning used his limited brain skills to decide to throw a rock across the carriageway, hitting my car in the process which was sat stationary at traffic lights.

I caught the little scrote and his school police officer, yes we have them attached to our finest education institutions here in Liverpool, has made contact with the kid's parents who have offered to foot the bill.

I'm taking my car in tomorrow to my local dealership to get a written quote. My question is, do the dealers do the work themselves or do they out-source?

They do it if the Dealership or group have a body shop and body repair technicians other than that it would be farmed out to a VW / Skoda even Porcshe Approved repairer,

which is not necessarily any guarantee of good work.

So you need to ask them and see who is quoting and if you are going to get it done well by your chosen repairer or an Insurance one,

but not some 'Mobile Technician' that Dealership might use for Kerbside Auto / Forecourt jobs.

That's it, I want a good job done and one which won't mess the warranty/car up in the distant future!

May have to venture further afield to source one with a body shop.

Do bear in mind one thing. If you own the car, where you get it repaired is entirely up to you. However, if you're on a PCP finance deal then Skoda Finance is the owner...and will want the car repaired to a Skoda-approved standard. If it isn't, and the repair is in some way sub-standard, there's the risk they'll price the value of the car down when your finance deal concludes.

Generally, a large dealer group will have its own bodyshop and keep the work (and the money) in-house. A smaller group may outsource, but it has to be a place that meets a Skoda (VW) approved standard.

More to the point, where is the little scrote going to be 'repaired'? :D

I'm still awaiting a call back from the school constable, but the other PC mentioned restorative justice as he's only 13...I'm looking more along the criminal damage route myself lol

Exactly!

Like i was saying,

VW Approved standard is not that high a standard when you see some of the crap that Approved VW Body repairers do, so you have to only accept the highest standards, Dacia Approved standard from a VW approved workshop since they approve any old crap and you go to measure paint thickness and it is not to spec.]

I just want a good job done, no flaking or bubbling in 5-7yrs time, planning on keeping this car for a good while in as pristine condition as possible!

I'll see what happens tomorrow, off to Alex Lawrie first thing.

Very best of luck getting this resolved.

I feel your pain!

The scrote should be feeling the pain !!

The source it out to a franchised vw group body shop, most major city's have one.  If you made a claim on the insurence they can send it anywhere. As awayski mentioned its not a guarantee of good work however my repair was, i think i was lucky. Also i got a new audi a1 to drive around for 3 days. So i cant fault the service it was exceptional.

I'm not claiming on my insurance, the kid's parents have agreed to foot the bill. I told the police I'd get a quote as I don't want a **** poor job, Skoda quoted me just shy of £450 so that'll do nicely!

Where on the bodywork was your car damaged?

OSR quarter panel, dent about the size of a 5p and three chunks out of the paintwork down to the raw finish.

I hope they can get the paint to blend in, many years ago they had to respray the whole side for somthing similar on a clio. I think paint technology has come a long way so i hope they can get it to look good.
