Coated / anti corrosion brake discs

Featured Replies

Good morning everyone,

looking for reccomendations for coated brake discs that won't end up rusty and corroded...well for as long as possible!

What have people used? Any good?

thanks :-)

Are you suggesting 'sealing' the swept area?.

Ceramic discs probably don't corrode.

No, just looking for off the shelf discs that already have some form of anti-corrosion material applied. I've been looking at EBC discs, just wodering if anyone has used these or similar products? Are they worth the money etc..

No, to prevent then corroding, rusting while on the car. I'm really sick of rusty naff looking brake discs!

Any coating will eventually wear off. I have had zinc coated discs that were supposed to be "rust proof", they weren't. With the off the shelve manufacturers the best I've used were Meyle which unfortunately aren't that popular here so you may struggle to find a supplier. These discs showed no sign of corrosion after 3 years of use.

Pagid aren't too bad either but showed bits of rust after a year. Mintex and Brembo don't tend to last long before the surface rust appears.

Edit. Meyle not Mahle

There is not rust preventative that will preserve them because it's worn off when you brake.

Ceramic would be a hyper expensive option perhaps.

That's good to know, thanks!

I think he is referring to the areas of the discs that aren't the braking surface like in the pic below

I splashed Kurust on my discs edges.

Correct!

Did some people not use high temperature silver metal paint? It'll still rust eventually I suppose.

Ah right; I had some zinc coated discs (sourced through an independent Audi specialist, and no more than plain cast iron), and the coating on the bell and edge was gone in 9 months anyway.

Ahh ok, this is good to hear, so i'm probably best off getting OEM discs and maybe look to give the bell a few coats of caliper paint or something... may not even bother!

Try barbeque matt black - should have some heat tolerance
