Fitting VW RNS315

Featured Replies

Hi all new to the forum

I have a skoda octavia 2012 mk2 hatchback

Already fitted is an Amundsen+ with BT, Sat nav

However a few weeks ago the Amundsen just stopped working, I've swapped out all the fuses (side of dash and in engine compartment)

SO took it to a Skoda dealer who've told me the unit is dead.

The reason I'm posting is I want to replace it, Dealer quoted me £1200 which is out of my price range.

I've seen an RNS 315 with Dab from a VW.

Would I be able to just plug it in and go with steering controls and everything working or will it need recoding? (I know I'll have to install a Dab aerial)

Thanks for any advice in advance

It'll need the security code for a start (make sure you get it), then it'll need coding to make your cars functions work properly, then you'll need to make sure it has Bluetooth built in because not all of them do (look for the data sticker on the side of the unit and a MAC code of anything but zeros means it's got Bluetooth, all zeros means it hasn't got Bluetooth), yes you'll need a DAB aerial. Then you'll have a VW start screen and VW red colour lighting behind the buttons etc.

Why not get a Skoda Amundsen Plus?

Why not get a Skoda Amundsen Plus?

Because all the ones I've seen for sale are more expensive than the VW ones and don't have Dab.

However it appears I'll also have to figure in the cost of coding into the equation

There'll be coding for an Amundsen as well.
