Decided to bid farewell to the Superb

Featured Replies

My SIII SE Business Estate has been on PCH since December 15 and was due to go back this December.  Leased primarily due to the ridiculously cheap offer Skoda had on at the time it was only supposed to be a stop gap for two years to allow me to boost some savings.  I considered extending the lease with VWFS as there was simply nothing out there comparable at the same money but have now settled on buying instead. Slightly ahead of it's planned return date. VWFS were kind enough to settle the lease 3 months early at 55% cost (£340). This seemed pretty reasonable to me as they didnt have to - I signed a contract after all.

So in three weeks i'll have the joy of seeing how many issues BCA pick up on my car when it gets vetted for condition. I've read the BVRLA guidelines and I reckon all the stone chips, and pin dents fall within fair wear and tear - we shall see.

I've settled on a Disco Sport as it's replacement. Hopefully I wont fall foul of the legendary Land Rover reliability.

One of our lads returned his car to BCA in Manchester, it was a Fiesta he'd taken on a 3yr 30k PCH scheme. He gave it a good valet before he took it back but it was far from mint (despite my best efforts none of them seemed to have grasped the concept of looking after their cars), never-the-less, and to my great surprise, it sailed through with no issues reported... hopefully it will be the same for you.!

It would be good to hear how you get on with the Discovery...

Good luck with BCA (and the Discovery)

Oddly enough, I am looking to replace my Golf GTD and my final shortlist is down to either a Superb L&K Hatch or Disco Sport - I have had a loan of a Superb for several weekends and impressed with the comfy ride etc.   I haven't tested the Disco Sport and specced up a ED4 HSE model (2WD Manual) model.

I would be interest to know what made you choose your Disco Sport?

^^^ 3 growing kids who don't like being wedged on the bench seat, 7 seats useful for extra kids occasionally.  rural house so 4x4 useful as have been stuck and unable to get home through floods a few times in the skoda.

disco drives nicely although the auto not as good as the dsg kodiaq I tested. Alround a nice package though. Although I'll miss the acc on my s3 which I couldn't afford on the disco. Originally hated it but now use it every day.

i went for the hse black. Would have considered the kodiaq sportline but seems to be months away and got bored of waiting.

The old tried and tested engines in the early ones were deemed too reliable by Landrover so they have now fitted their own engine just to make this more interesting when getting from A-B :D

Yep I've read up a fair bit about them and there seem to be a few engine, gearbox and cabin rattle issues. Having spoken to five people who have them though they are all very happy so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

to be fair my s3went into limp home mode a few times, has had numerous stereo software glitches, the normal trim falling off and a fair few rattles. None of which have really bothered me that much so hopefully the disco will be as reliable.

I'm sure it will be fine, you can buy a lemon from any manufacturer, it's all down to luck!

Enjoy it it and make sure you show us some pictures!

Disco Sport arrived a few weeks ago. So far so good.

The infotainment isnt a patch on the Skoda one, slow, confusing menu and no apple car play (all of which I knew).  I'm also missing the ACC from the S3.

Overall though it's faster, more comfortable, handles better (surprisingly) and feels much more premium. But then it should do as it cost twice as much as my S3!

MPG is a bit of a shock - dropping from 47 average in the S3 to 32 in the Disco.

looks amazeballs there mate though so would take the sacrifice on mileage!

any issues with BCA return conditions?

my 4yo and Jack Russell are doing their best to ruin the interior of mine between them.....

I was going to ask the same, any issues when you returned the S3?

Ooops, just seen your other thread.... :blush
