30,000 mile / 3 year service - what to expect...?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

As per the title, what should I expect?

I've had the free servicing package on my Octavia (from new) every 10k or 12 months whichever first and it's coming up to its 30,000 mile marker.

Im guessing it'll be a little more than just the oil & filter and a glance over everything else?

Thanks,

Steve.

So if you have had a Minor Service 1st year, Oil / Filter, look and see's, Wash & Vacuum, report etc.

Then a 'Major Service' last year,

Did they change the Pollen Filter as an extra and nothing more than thew  minor,

Change Oil & Filter, look see, do body report, wash & Vacuum, do a report, not much really.

Minor Service now, so ask what is getting done.

****Is the Brake Fluid change being done or do you pay extra?****

Are they looking at the Air Filter or not, or do they say only at a Major Service.

****Are they doing a A/C service since they say it is Scheduled, or do they want more money paid because it is optional?****

????

So, Is it just a Oil & Filter change, look see, do a report, Wash & Vacuum, do a report, reset the Service Monitor then next year there will be a bigger bill?

Full Dealer Servicing & Service Plans can mean a vehicle has not had much Servicing & Maintenance by the time a Manufacturers Warranty Expires,

best make sure you get value for money.

Last year wheels should have been off etc, pollen filter changed, money for old rope, likely not much done because car was 2 years old...

Ask what is being done this year.

Should be a minor Service i.e. Oil and filter change + brake fluid. Should be just over £200.

"Service Plan".  Should be 'No Charge',

Manufacturers Servicing Schedule / Guidelines are Brake Fluid change first @ 3 years.

Didn't spot that bit... There is some irony in that the OP is called "Stevie Wonder"... Perhaps should be my name instead ;)

My wife's August 2015 Polo goes in for its "year 2" service next week or so, her "prepaid service plan" ticket gives her cover for up to £220 for that major service, when she was contacted about booking the car in she seems to have been given a cost to carry out this service, which was £198.88, so no money will be changing hands, I've just checked the AC performance (running pressures and output temperature) and cleaned the brakes so no chance of any upselling there. As I had bought a new pollen filter for my car when ECP were running a "good" discount, as we were near that VW dealership, I stopped by and asked if a "year 2" service includes changing the pollen filter - and they confirmed that even with their prepaid service plan it was, which was a bit annoying as no doubt they will fit the cheaper non carbon coated one, or maybe I'm being nasty?

By the way, the ticket value assigned to a minor service, ie "year 1" and "year 3" is £110, that is a "dealership group" plan not a VW plan if that makes any difference.

No Spark plug change up to 3 year and 50k for me. Changed myself before the next service.

I still have the skanky old plugs as I'd forgotten to throw them away and they were behind the bins that sit underneath our carport so I've decided to keep them as future evidence of good Skoda servicing regime :D

Now the next service is due and I'm out of warranty I'm going to Unit 18 in MK ( at a bit more effort to me), but I'd rather go somewhere that actually cares about cars.
