Run flat no thanks

Featured Replies

Bought a spare wheel when I ordered my present car, rather than a bottle of foam. Just had a nail removed on Thursday, using  a plug repair and all's good but still kept my gauge and electric infation pump in the boot. Young guy at our shoot this morning mentioned a flat tyre on his 3 series so gave him the pump and thought nothing of it. He came back in the clubhouse and said it hadn't worked. Took a look, put the pump back on and trued to inflate it, nothing happened so I reached behind the tyre and felt a large tear between the bead and wheel rim. So much for run flats being good for 50 miles, I suspect he'd driven the 10 miles to the club at higher speeds than recommended. I will stick with the spare wheel.

Spares not even on option with beemers unless you want your boot filled with one (3rd parties do sell kits but they still live in the boot).

I'd rather have runflats than a can of gunk but it's not much of an improvement.

Yep, a lot of cars have the adblu tank in the back no so a shallow false floor is put over it.

Nowhere to put the wheel even if you wanted one. BMW put the battery in the boot now and a few other odds and sods.

Ditched the run flats on my 3er years ago....

Saved myself a fair whack by putting a good quality pump + tyre sealent in the boot (where the spare wheel should be....) and paying for full RAC cover. Not skimped on the non-run flats either, Goodyear AS2's all round.

I can see the appeal, but I found them to be hard, crashy tyres that are horrificly exspensive.

I find them ok bth. But my x-drive doesn't have the m-sport suspension (or adaptable). It still feels pretty firm and on rough roads I couldn't say the car is all that pleasant to drive but I doubt anything with stiffish suspension would be either.

But aye the price... I'll be needing all 4 for winter and that will be nearly a grand of rubber needed.

Winter rubber looks like a non-option unless I get a can of gunk. No winter runflats for my rear wheels at all..
