Light Switch Indicator

Featured Replies

Our new 1.2tsi. Turning the light switch to headlight setting, there is no green I dictator light o  the instrument display (as there was on  our previous Yeti); neither does the indicator on the switch illuminate. High beam does show a blue light on the instrument display as before. When the lights are switched to auto and light levels and rain cause the dipped beam headlamps to go on, there is similarly no indicator light on switch or instrument display.

Is this normal now or do we have a fault?

There is no indicator on the instrument display. Has been missing since facelift in 2014

When lights are set to auto and come on the icon just to the right of the auto setting mark on the switch lights up. I look for this to see if lights are on or off.

If you turn the dial all the way to the right to manually turn on the lights this icon also lights up to show the lights are on.

Pull the switch out when in manual on and fogs come on. These have a warning light on the instrument display.

There should be a light on the switch to tell you what's on.

I look up at the submarine lights, if they are on the lights are on.

Only as kenfowler3966 has said.

First car I have come across with auto lights that doesn't show that a dipped beam light is on I  the instrument cluster!

Hadn't realised that. Will check this out!

I know I'm going to regret asking this.......wtf are submarine lights

The little lights in the roof console, by the mirror, that shine down towards the gear stick.

If you have a sunroof you won't have them.

Thank for that     Llanigraham.......

..i thought I was being more silly than usual

Pardon me Mr L,

The SE plus has the sunroof and the sub lights.

Our has no submarine lights because it has the sunroof.

My 230 Octavia has Submarine light and has the pan sunroof........

Yes Andy, but we are discussing Yeti's and as far as I know they were disconnected as the mirror is in a different position, and they would shine on it.

With my pre facelift, if the auto-lights switch on because of rain (and its not dark), the submarine lights do not come on, - also the sat-nav does not switch to night mode.

I'm completely in the dark to answer that one!

Is that due to not having your submarine lights on?

My new Yeti has the sat nav going in and out of night mode when I drive under a bridge or along a tree shaded road; a little bit annoying at times.

To be honest Graham I'd have one in a flash, I have always liked the Yetii, Unfortunately Mrs G doesn't so she won't let me have one so the 230 will have to do.

But the ban's lifted now and then, isn't it?

[Anyone in Bob's Corner?]

Useful info - I must check the "submarine lights" next time I need to know if the dipped lights are on when the light switch is on auto in daylight. I've had my FL model for about 4 months now and find the absence of dipped headlight green light to be the biggest complaint for me. I drove a long distance where I considered that dipped lights were essential (daylight fog) and towards the end of the journey I discovered to my horror that they were not on. I discovered this by pushing the stalk to full beam and then noticing that no blue light came on. So I now do this every time I think the dipped lights should be on but don't like that system in case I might be flashing/distracting an oncoming vehicle. For me the absence of that green dipped light indicator is a big and penny pinching mistake. "Submarine lights" might be my saviour.

Yetiflute - couldn't agree more with you. What imbecile took away the green dipped headlight notification from the instrument display?

Simply Clever Škoda.

Not meaning to go OT, but I believe in the MKIII Octavia the drivers side wing mirror no longer comes with the Blind spot wide angle portion.

You can however pay £800 for a Blind Spot Detection System.
