2013 Skoda Yeti Wheel Size

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I have a 2012 Skoda Yeti Greenline 1.6, I bought it last year and I love it - its a dream to drive.

My only reservation is that wheel size (Alloy/Tyre) that came with it, I think they are 16".

They look a bit odd in the large wheel arch designed to accommodate a 17" wheel.

I am thinking about getting a set of 17" alloys from a breaker and fitting them with new tyres.

I was wondering if this is just a straight swap or are there any gotcha's?

Can I use any Skoda alloys, will a set of 17" alloys from a 2012 Octavia do also.

Thanks,

Ray K

The tyres on the Greenline are a higher profile and about the same diameter as the 17" with the lower profile tyres fitted.

.....and they will allow snow chains on the front, I imagine.

If buying wheels from a breaker, have a good look at the donor car.

If all curled up in a ball ( pre-crusher ) look elsewhere!

And a lot of people consider that the car has a better ride on the 16" wheels.

There is an obsession of style over comfort in UK and Skoda UK spec our cars with low profile wheels to take advantage.

In other countries I believe most Yeti are supplied on 16" wheels?

I've run both 205/55/16 (? same as your Greenline) and OEM 225/50/17 and have not found a huge diferrence in ride quality. It has been well discussed on here though.

^^^ That is understandable when the sidewall height was pretty much the same with 205/55 R 16 & 225/50 R17's

Quite, if you want a "better" ride you need 215 x 60 R16 tyres. That will provide double the wall height difference of 50 - 55 tyres. Also 215 60 R16 tyres are fully approved by Skoda and were fitted to lower spec Yeti's in UK and a lot more Yeti's in Europe.

The Skoda Yeti green line sits i think its 15mm lower than other yeti's to make it more eco friendly i like the large wheel arches it's all part of the yeti stance  the other way to go is to lowering spring or coilover's .

I believe JED is right, the Greenline sits lower than the other models. I'm one of the elite few that actually specified 16" wheels on an Elegance, my decision based on respected opinion on this forum that the ride was better on 16" wheels than on 17" wheels (others may disagree, these things are subjective etc. etc. but that's the advice I chose to follow). I've not regretted that choice, I love the way the car drives and handles (better than my previous Volvo on its puncture magnet low profile tyres). Something you might want to look into is the relative cost when it comes to fitting new tyres. Things may have changed now but when I replaced mine about 18 months ago the 16" wheel saved me £140 for the four against the same tyre on a 17" wheel - or a year's car tax.  I'm tight so I'll take cash over aesthetics every time I'm afraid!
