Windscreen wipers not "parking"?

Featured Replies

Hi all

Bit of a random question, but how do I get my wipers to tuck right down in park position? They sit up about an inch above park position - I think anyway, only had it a couple of days!

I've tried holding the wiper control down with ignition on (fast wipe, but not to the bottom) and off (wipers go up to service position, but won't go back down to the bottom)  I can't turn the ignition off with the wipers right at the bottom (to reset the position as the manual says) as they won't go right to the bottom.

Am I missing something? 2011 scout.

Thanks.

It is working correctly. The wipers park in one of two or more positions each time they park; only one of these hides the wiper blades.

Further details and the reason (which I can't remember) are in the handbook.

If you don't have a handbook then you can download one from the sticky thread above.

Just found this from the PDF of my handbook:-

After the windscreen wiper switches off each time or the ignition switches off for the third time, the position of the windscreen wiper changes, this counteracts an early fatigue of the wiper rubbers.

Found details from handbook. Sorry I can't change the font size.

Have the wipers been removed at some point e.g. for new windscreen and not been put back quite right on the spline? After having a windscreen replaced had to get one of mine repositioned as it was set too low.

Thanks both.

I do have a manual, and had seen the bit about avoiding fatigue. However, the wiper blades never seem to stay right at the bottom, they always sit up a cm or so from the bottom of the sweep area / an inch above the bonnet rear edge.

Windscreen hasn't been out as far as I know. Hmm.

This is one of the positions it stays in for days at a time and is normal:-

Thanks pp, that's useful.

I think mine do sit higher, but I'll just leave it to it for a while and see what they do!

As they are controlled by the appropriate electronic module, it is normal to stay in different positions each time car is parked.

This module has a program and decides how often and which position to park them for the wear blades elimination - so there are not a lot you can do for this unless they were removed and re-fitted back for any reason but in another position than the original..

A photo could help maybe see your issue...

They may need a small tweak. Mine were a bit too low when I got the car, possibly after the windscreen had been replaced by the previous owner - so depending on exactly where the car decided to park them, sometimes they would hit the bonnet which was really annoying!

Cheers gents. I've decided to ignore them! They're probably OK, and if not, they can't be too far off. And they do sit in different places as they're supposed to.
