A few issues with Octavia Estate

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

So I exchanged my Skoda Fabia for a slightly older 2014 Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI Elegance Estate. Absolutely love the car, even if the drive is a bit hard!

I have noticed a few little issues for which I would be grateful for any support!

Firstly, I have noticed an issue with the front passenger side door not unlocking. It seems to work fine most of the time but occasionally the door cannot be opened from the outside. Even when I press the door lock release button on the centre console, the only way to open the passenger door is from the inside. Any ideas? Also will central locking issues be covered under the Skoda Approved Warranty Scheme? I have only owned the car for around 10 days.

Secondly, I have noticed a bit of a harsh rattle for the rear when going over bumps and rough road surfaces. The only thing I can think is that it might be the tailgate. The reason why I say this is that when you close it, it sounds a bit noisy. I get the impression the tailgate has been slammed pretty hard and repeatedly over the years and it might be a bit loose inside! It certainly doesn't have that nice cushioned sound when you close it. The sound I am getting is almost like the tailgate is part open and thus rattling. Any ideas? Again is it likely this would be something covered under the Approved Warranty?

Many thanks again for any advice :)

Both issues will be covered by the dealer, get in touch with them.

Sounds like the passenger door central locking has failed.

For the tailgate you could try winding the rubber stoppers out a bit to make the tailgate close tightly. But again the dealer should sort it.

Thanks for your reply. I will absolutely give the garage a call. The issue is that they are 100 miles away from my home address and only have he one dealership. Perhaps they will allow me to take it in to a local dealer under warranty!? I didn't realise you could wind out the stoppers but I'll give it a go. To be honest I think it's the inside of the door that's the problem as it sounds a bit battered!

My I ask who the dealer is ?

Yes of course - they are lightcliffe Skoda in Warrington. The car was listed at a good price but there have been a few little issues. For example one of the key fobs doesn't work (possibly the battery) and the rear seat base wasn't attached. They have apparently sent me a clip for the seat and a key battery but they have yet to materialise. I haven't even received any sort of paperwork yet to be honest. I almost pulled out of the sale. It had a bit of body work damage but they sort of refused to refund my deposit so I agreed to take the car if they fixed the scuff on the bodywork.

All sounds like poor service to me.

I'd be on to them like a shot and asking for a loan car while they sort out all the issues on yours.

If not, I'd be calling Skoda UK next....

Good luck Mikey.

Not very good for an approved used car, hasn't been checked or prepared very well.

Approved used should be able to have warranty work at any Skoda dealer.

With the problem I had with my 230 the Warranty work was carried out by Lookers Harrogate but I bought the car new from Rainworths in Mansfield.

I understand that the Labour costs for Warranty work is far less then labour charges to normal run of the mill work/servicing etc etc. This could be one of the reasons dealers try to wriggle out of warranty work as they don't make or even loose money. On a side note. The dealer can't do anything under warranty unless Skoda say's yes, any unauthorised warranty work carried out but not autherised by Skoda the dealer won't get a penny.

They do seem to wriggle a bit but that probably applies to the supplying dealer too?  I've never had any problem with Skoda, but I guess that may be down to the individual dealers.

I would have thought the "local" dealer should see it as an opportunity to demonstrate their fabulous  customer service in the hope you will return for routine servicing and repairs once the car is out of warranty.

Lookers Harrogate Service department is second to none, fantastic service and nothing is too much trouble.  Now the sales department arn't really intrested in selling me cars. We have had a few off them in the past but now it's, there's no discount on new cars, margin's are tight, I'm might be able to get an extra £500 on the Part Ex

So, now I go to Rainworth Mansfield, a 150 mile round trip. I ring them up, tell them exactly  what I want tell them about the trade in done all over the phone. They never wan't to see the trade in. I drive down, drop off the trade in, pick up my new motor and drive off,   Oh... did I mention the % of Discount It's usually well into double figures and thats without even asking  * Where would you go *

Thanks very much for all your replies. To be honest I am getting a bit sick with the garage. Keep promising to call me back and never do. Spoke to a chap who said he would ask the mechanics about the door issue but never bothered to call. Still haven't receive the rear seat clips and battery for the key fob they keep promising me. I might just contact my local dealer in Scarborough where I had my last service and see if they will have a look at it. It's funny that Skoda customer service passed on my feedback to the dealer and said someone would call me to discuss it. Obviously they never did! Think I'll definitely be getting in touch with customer service again!
