MQB Octavia instrument lighting - HOW TO GUIDE

Featured Replies

Hi all

Over the part 12 months I have received quite a number of enquiries into the workings (and how to change them) of the Octavia instrument panel lighting behaviour.

So here is finally a 'how to' guide, I have been playing around with this as late and have made some improvements so this supersedes anything I have said before.  I have worked out there are less changes than before so if you have modified them before please revert to original before starting.  This is applicable to any MQB platformed vehicle, I have tested it on both Octavia 5E and Golf MK7

Can some please add this to the main guide please

Initially this is split into 2 categories:

1) 2013/2014/2015/2016 vehicles (if you switch on the sidelights only when its completely dark and the instrument panel DOES light up this is your category)

2) 2016/2017+ vehicles (if you switch on the sidelights only when its completely dark and the instrument panel DOES NOT light up, this is your category)

2013/2014/2015 vehicles

> Go to 17-Instruments

> Enter access code 20103

> Click on adaptations

> Modify the following channels:

ENG105831-ENG99557-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-X2 = 0A

ENG105831-ENG102140-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-X3 = 32

ENG105831-ENG102936-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-X4 = 64

ENG105831-ENG103548-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-X5 = 96

Then you have 2 choices - mine is set to extra bright but its up to you.

Normal brightness - Varying (same as when the side / headlights are on)

ENG105831-ENG100773-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y3 = 17

ENG105831-ENG100631-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y4 = 32

ENG105831-ENG102174-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y5 = 46

ENG105831-ENG113993-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y6 = 64

Extra bright - static (will basically stay at full brightness all the time unless it is pretty much dark and then will go to normal)

ENG105831-ENG100773-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y3 = 64

ENG105831-ENG100631-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y4 = 64

ENG105831-ENG102174-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y5 = 64

ENG105831-ENG113993-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_clock_dial_day-Y6 = 64

Middle display - If you want to change the brightness of the middle clock display where the digital speedo is and stop it varying up and down brightness you can do this also.  It will stay at full brightness unless it goes dark, then it will revert to normal.

ENG105836-ENG100631-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_middle_display_main_field-Y4 = 23

ENG105836-ENG102174-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_middle_display_main_field-Y5 = 64

ENG105836-ENG113993-dimming_characteristic_curve_adjustment_middle_display_main_field-Y6 = 64

If you have a later 2016/2017+ vehicle

Unfortunately you only have 1 option until the correct security code is found to do the same to earlier vehicles, you can set the rear tail lights/ number plates / instrument lights on together only at this point.
