SE Technology FuseBox

Featured Replies

Hi All, i was wondering if anyone else has an MK 3 SE Technology and access to their fuse box behind the glove compartment and could take a pic?

I fitted a dash cam back in May, hardwired to the fusebox and have been driving with it fine ever since.

last wed night driving on a 3hr drive north, my infotainment system kept powering off, if i tried to put it back on straight away, nothing, then wait 15 seconds or so, come back on....lasts around 4 - 5 mins then off again.

next day, same thing for drive back from site, on off, on off....in the end i gave up and left it off.....a very frustrating drive.....

next day (yesterday) entire system won't come back on at all, have tried power button for 10secs/30secs etc.

i've emailed the dealer and it's going in on thursday, he's indicated they think that it's probably something to do with the dash cam i've hardwired in.....i don't see how this is the case as my experience with fuses is that they are not an intermittent issue as originally described - blown or not, there is no try!

the usb port is no longer charging my phone either and check the box, there appears to be no fuse in the slot!??!?! slot 9 from the manual

can anyone do a "spot the difference" between theirs and mine if they have a pic handy? pics attached

thanks in advance

Matt

Heres a photo from my SE technology (2018 spec).   Looks quite a bit different to yours?

Silly question, is there a usb cable plugged in? Could this have a short that means it no longer charges and is tripping thermal protection that knocks out the infotainment?

Have tried with a couple different cables. Also same cables with cigerette to USB adapter and cable and  phone charges... I thought the same but alas seems no.

P.s thanks for the pic. Very much appreciated

My 16 plate L&K has no fuse in 9 and I've no problems charging from front or rear USB sockets - I think this is a documentation error.

My best guess for your fault would be a dry joint within the "infotainment" unit - heated up during initial long run and failed, cooled down a bit and reconnected ("mechanical"/ touching connection - not solder), repeated this cycle a few times and finally gave up the ghost.

I can't see the relevance of a dash cam - doubt if they even draw 1A.  Many years ago I had a Jetta that had a spot weld failure on the bus bar at the back of the fuse box.

I think the fuses on the same horizontal row are all either permanent live or switched live - any issues on the same row?  Where is/was  the supply to the dash cam?

Hi Peter, thanks for the tip... Had it in position 12 for the 12v socket. I hanks for the info on the solder. Will leave it to the garage. All in warranty (only got it in March) so no too concerned. Have taken the dash cam out to avoid excuses. The only thing throwing me now is the USB socket not working at all either which is why I wanted a comparison pic. Thanks again for the reply. Will update when skoda take a look Thurs... Just hope they don't sting me with a Citigo for a courtesy car

Sorry had it in position 40 not 12

The USB socket not charging doesn't surprise me - it provides 5v and therefore must go through through some "electronics".  With the ignition switched off when I connect my mobile it recognises that the cable has been connected which would suggest it sees the infotainment unit and if that unit has no power...........

Ha!  Heated seats and amp for canton  yes, but no sunroof.

Forgot to add in my last post that the "USB" fuse may be there because the fuse box design anticipated USB port being upgraded to USB 3 which has a pin capable of delivering 100W at up to 20V

Thanks to all that replied. Looks like there's not a lot I can do till it goes in. Will update once skoda get back to me (hopefully!!) on Thurs

Well it took them 5 days but have my superb back... They've replaced the whole media unit. Couldn't get it working. Said the testing takes the longest as they have to prove to skoda they've tried everything before replacing under warranty. In short, no idea what happened and can't say why. Usb they said was a fuse. I said there wasn't a fuse in the slot for USB in the manual and I got a blank look from the service desk staff... I just wanted out of there and my car back so didn't press...
