My experience of MFYMotor

Featured Replies

Finally sold the Audi, owned from 3 years old, one previous owner and circa 40k miles, perfect condition.

In nine & half years of my ownership it has only done about 12k miles, so mostly sat on the drive due to using another vehicle so pretty much kept in same condition.

I ended up with it as a second vehicle due to inconsideration of my contractor at the time.............Another story.

Anyway, i got an online price offered of 2577 from Money for your Motor, who will collect the vehicle, so no worries if your insurance or whatever has ran out. Mine was SORN anyway.

The guy arrived to survey the vehicle and the first thing he did was assume (instead of politely asking me if it would) it was not going to start as it had been stood.

I said i moved it just yesterday.....................

He asked me why the wheels were covered over It was the way he asked that i disagreed with) so i asked him why he thought i had covered the wheels over.

To keep them clean and dry, he said. There you go, I said.

I wasn't desperate to sell and thought if you are going to be funny then you can pee off and i will go elsewhere, but i did want to at least get a price out of them.

He also commented (among'st his other bull) that he did not think that they would buy it. I knew he was saying / meaning that my expectations would be too high as i knew they had to at least make an offer. I said well i don't want to waste your time, or mine. He backed off a little and i said let's just get on with it, can we.

He seemed to mellow a little (only a little) when he realized i was not going to be walked over.

The only quibble with the car was the service history, as it was only part history, and they make a BIG deal of FDSH.

He checked the speedo was working with a short drive and got back to me with an offer of £2250.

I was expecting an offer of 2k or even less after reading a lot of these type of purchasers reviews online.

I said i was wanting £2400 and he contacted their office in front of me, he covered the phone and said to me, "he's asking a computer", I laughed and replied "you could be talking to your mate for all i know".

He said they will do 2350 and kindly reminded me of the £49.99 fee. I thought for a minute and then said, let's do it, and we completed the transaction.

Funnily enough most of the reviews online say the purchaser was usually very pleasant whilst the prices offered were significantly less than the online offer.

My review, if i left one would be quite the opposite.

A bit gutting really though as i was offered £3600 about 2 years ago by a dealer next to the garage where i took it for it's mot.

I had just completed the Autotrader advert and as the car was spot on, everything worked and i had put lots of photo's on and all the information i could think of, so decided to sell it myself as i wanted £3800 from the dealer. At the time he would have put it up for at least £4995, possibly even £5250 ono.

I didn't get around to posting it as i got bitten by another dog whilst protecting Barney, and due to medical neglect, ended up in hospital with a bone infection, and on Antibiotics for 7 weeks.

Anyway, it will probably have been the best car i will ever own. Oh well, just a car.

A tiny bit more, if you're still awake, Lol.

On the above, I am not saying i was completely chuffed with the final value, but thought the car had cost me enough already and other offers online were between £2122 (no fee) up to £2538 (£60 fee) and WBAC was £2295 (£50 fee), so not a lot of chance getting a better offer selling this way.

The main thing i wanted to add was if i did this again I would have asked the salesman (imo he was selling their service and he wasn't buying the vehicle) to get his office to phone me directly and give me their offer. There is the possibility that they offered more than he told me, (maybe even the full online offer (unlikely) but he reduced the amount himself.

The more i think about it the more likely this is the way they work. They will give the salesman a max figure and leave the rest up to him.

This would work well for them and him, although he swore he did not get any commission / bonus.

Cool. You got a decent chunk of cash for a 12.5 year old car. Winner.

Hopefully, your internet wont keep reminding you about it for the next 2 years like WBAC do!

They still send price updates for a car I sold over 2 years ago.
