Kodiaq SE and SmartLink

Having read through the Kodiaq brochure, and having seen numerous Youtubes and other items on-line, I'm still not entirely clear as to what comes as standard on the SE version.  I'm particularly interested with whether the Kodiaq SE  5-seat petrol 4x4 TSI 150 manual has as standard the SmartLink/MirrorLink facility.  Can I link a suitable smartphone to the touchscreen (cable/USB) to get approved APPS on the screen, specifically navigation APPS?

I have an SE spec Kodiaq and Android Auto/Apple Carplay is standard. Google/Apple maps can be used for satnav only difference is no maxidot mirror for directions.

Now as a navigation app Waze is compatible with Android auto system. U can choose

Google map or waze when opening android auto.

Wish Apple would open up to 3rd party apps.

With Apple u can use only standard Apple Car Play ... with a few compatibles apps.

Apple don't allow apps created by third parties to work on Apple Play, unlike Android which allows some other apps. For instance, Apple Maps is the only navigation app allowed on Apple Play, but this depends on a decent phone signal and does not work offline. Not much use up here in the Dales.

Google owns Waze, so it's not 3rd party. But yes, Amazon Music and Spotify works with Android Auto too.

 

Edit: Spotify and Amazon Music work in CarPlay too, so no difference there.

Now Android Auto is compatible with Waze (since the 16th of August 2017) ... Enjoy.

When launching,  you can choose either Maps (Google) or Waze (using the little arrow pointing down

next the NAV button in Android Auto).

This is a must have.

Apple Maps navigation is quite good, including reporting incidents, but it depends on a phone signal. As far as I know there's no way to go offline.

Apple map navigation is not as good as Android auto + waze (or google maps) ! By far.

Very possibly, but that's not much comfort if you can't  run them through Apple Play! The only way round it is to use an Android phone, with all its security issues.

I've been using Android since it came into existence, never had any security issues.

The issue is using dodgy apps which have found their way onto the Google Store, as they have a less rigorous policy of screening apps than Apple. If you stick to mainstream apps from known developers you should be OK.
