Tyres (again) but for non-VRS Octavia

Featured Replies

We regularly see posts about VRS tyres, but what about those of us on 205/55/16's ?

I got through the MOT in September by juggling the sapre with one rear and fitting some FOC nearly new part worns on the front.

However, the part worns (Michelin somethings) seem hopeless in the grip department, certainally worse than the Continental's that were on there before. I suspect this may be why the previous owner ditched them.

I had Yokohama A520's on my Astra before the Octavia and they were super grippy, but wore too quickly as a result.

I'm after something that is a nice all year-round tyre with a good combination of wear and grip. Low noise would be nice, as would a sexy look  (think directional tyres here ;) )

Any ideas?

I got some Goodyear NCT5 on my Celica.....talk about ****e.

I just don't have in confidense in them....the "feel" just isn't there....hell even the Nakangs that we on there before felt better.

Believe it or not but you can get Toyo T1-r's in that size ;)

Given that I never read the VRS tyre threads - are those any good?

I'd recommend Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's or Toyo T1R's, the Toyo's are the noiser of those 2 but both grip well. Also have you thought of going for something a bit wider? IIRC the Golf Mk4 uses 205/55's on 16" wheels.

I had thought about going a bit wider - but wasnt sure of the width of the wheel so diddnt ask on here until I found out what it was.

Not sure you can get the GSD's in 195/55/16 . Like many things tyre reviews are subjective ;) . All I can say is that compared to the stock Conti's which the octy has as standard, the T1-R (not the T1-S) is vastly superior and has covered twice as many miles before needing replacement.

My opinion only of course :)

I thought the 16" wheels were 205/55' as standard, at least that is what came on my TDI PD

To be honest I've not checked that before posting. I'll take a look at lunch time and am now ready to look like a fool.

as a quick fix for the MOT I just fitted Nokian Z Tyres, I thought cheap and cheerful and as I intended to sell the car shortly, thought they would do nicely for the short term, but what a surprise, grippier than the previous Toyo TS1's and much quieter.

I have 205/55/16 on my TDI octy , and have bought two sets of tyres.

The fronts I replaced with Michelin Pilot HX (same as were on there to start) but the backs I got some yokohama S306 tyres for 125 quid for the pair which seem fine to me
