Hi.  Just bought another Fabia (Mk II) with alloy wheels.  .Unfortunately no locking wheel nut tool with the car.  Looked on ebay but there are loads of different styles available.  Reluctant to buy one in case I get the wrong one! Any suggestions on how to obtain the correct tool without going directly to the main dealer??  Thanks.

No suggestions other than going to a dealership so that you can get the correct one,

or ask some little toerag that steal wheels to show you how the get locking nuts off and then buy new ones and you get the tool.

Firsts, thoroughly check the car, normally the tool rattles about somewhere in the foam carrier that houses the jacking tools in the spare wheel. Pull the foam out, and the spare wheel and check its not fallen down in the well. Check the cubbie holes at either side of the boot, the door pockets, the seat back pockets and the glovebox.

Then as Liger said, contact the seller/former owner(s) and try and establish when it might have been removed, e.g when tyres/wheels were removed, maybe by the owner, a garage, or tyre fitting centre and then maybe contact the last place known to have removed a wheel.

I imagine dealers will be able to remove the locking nut, but obviously it may cost.

Forget to mention some people are unaware that there are two gloveboxes on a lot of fabias, upper and lower. Also some fabias have a pull out storage tray under the passenger seat. And top trim fabias may have a storage cubby hole in between the front seats under the armrest. Could be hiding in one of those places....

Some dealership just charge the cost of selling you the tool after checking which you need, and once they know will let you use their master to get the 4 bolts off,

but then obviously some really are Stealers, so depends on if they think you are going to be a good customer.

An old work colleague had her wheel nut (65 plate polo) lost by some dodgy tire changers they claimed to have never lost it and it was her fault so she gave up fighting and went to VW dealership and they charged her something like £25-27 for a replacement!

I broke my key whilst trying to take my winter steels off this spring, took the car to my local VAG specialist as they had a wide selection of keys, none of which matched mine so they cut the lock nuts off and replaced them with new standard items.  Mush easier o do with the steel wheels as the is no "nut well" for them to hide in.

If your anywhere near reading then this person will get them off. I had to see him when mine were so tight the pattern rounded off. I've put on new ones now and I'm really carefully just to gently nip them up. Actually my wheels are so kerbed now I may well just lose the locking wheel nuts completely and just have standard wheel bolts.
