Alternative Tyre Size on VRS

Yeah I know all about left foot braking as I used to stage Rally too.

I just darent get the engine mapped yet....

Mapping does not damage a good engine,  the APR Stage 1 is better than the VW / SKODAOEM Engine Management...

you just avoid REVO and not because they do not know their stuff, 'usually' but just because the had a crap Stage 1 for a 1.4TSI / TFSI 132-136 kw Twincharger and then never owned up to that.  Or avoid remapping by anyone if you have a valid extended warranty.

But then If the car is all good after 7 years and it gets to twice the UK NSL quick enough then why bother remapping...

Sorry but I've got to laugh at some of the comments on this thread. 215s looking worse, having "squishier" bulging side walls and rolling more is total nonsense imho.

As George points out the sizes are a guide only and vary so much between tyre manufacturers etc. The 205 NS2-Rs on my Clio are wider than the 215s on my Mini and similar to the 215s on our fabia.

Sidewall stiffness will also vary between different tyres, totally independent of width.

In reality there is only a very tiny difference between 205 and 215 on a Fabia. Given the choice for me it makes sense to go for 215s where you can but the main thing is to get decent quality rubber.

Have you tried the rainsport 3?. It's not down to the width they are just squishy tyres.

'Performance Summer Tyre' Good Wet Performance; good in wet and dry, so that is it, tread and compound to suit and not expensive, squishy tyres,

maybe not best for motorsport events then unless wet,  Performance Summer tyres sums them up.

Seldom are Performance Summer Tyres good in the wet coming with strong sidewalls and hard compounds, so they are a bit squishy...

Easy to warm up though...

Ahh i knew I had read something about a dodgy remap, didn't realise it was a specific one....might get a few other things sorted before I have a look at the APR then....yknow...FMIC etc... :)

Not tried them yet but you are absolutely right. Some tyres have softer sidewalls than other brands. Going from 205 to 215 in the same tyre is unlikely to make much of a difference in that area though.

We swapped from the stock continentals on 205/40 17 to Goodyear Eagle F1s Assymetric 3 on 215/40 17 and traction/handling/refinement/ride were all that little bit better. But that could be more down to the better rubber /tyre design (imho) rather than the trivial increase in width :-)

You'd need to do a like-for-like comparison really
