Can you get Columbus to warn when over speed limit?

Featured Replies

Hi folk's,

Have facelift with Columbus. Really like the navigation. On my last car I had a pioneer Sat nav and one of the features was to be able to give a visual or visual and audio warning once you went over the speed limit. Is there a similar setting on the Columbus?

Thanks,

Mick

Think you can set a Speed warning on the Maxi Dot. Any Good ?

That's a fixed setting though? I'd like it to warn when the actual road speed limit is exceeded

There's no facility for that

you can set a winter tyre speed limit which bongs and shows up on maxidot when you exceed it - eg set it for 75mph and if you exceed this you will get a warning

Good for when you're on a dual carriageway with the National speed limit or motorway, but won't help on roads with lower speed limits - which is what I think OP is asking?

I think if you want overspeed warnings, you'll also need traffic sign recognition fitted.

I have traffic sign recognition but I haven't seen the facility to have it alert you if you exceed the interpreted limit.

Car won't do it. I use a Garmin just for this as the database can be updated free 3 times a year and the speed warnings are very clear.

It also has speed camera database in it.

It's certainly can on the FL, page 251/252 of the manual https://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Octavia_5E/05-2017/Manual/Octavia/A7_Octavia_OwnersManual.pdf

The traffic sign recognition (following known as system) shows certain traffic signs (e.g. speed limits) on the display of the instrument cluster and if necessary
warns against excessive speeds.

Dynamic Road Sign Display - Settings for the Dynamic Road Sign Display
■ Show in instrument cluster - Activation/deactivation of the additional traffic signs in the display of the instrument cluster
■ Speed warning: - Configuration of a warning when the speed limit is exceeded
■ Warning at over - Configuration of the warning timing with the option to exceed the speed limit in a range from 0 to 20 km/h

Facelift only? :(

You shouldn't need any additional tech for this - the navigation already displays the speed limit on the map - it should also be really easy to calculate your speed using the gps... simple logic implementation of if current speed > than speed limit flash warning..

Unfortunately this involves taking your eyes off the road - many GPs systems can make an audible warning if you speed. Pity this one doesn't

Ask Skoda/VAG to enable it without TSR then :)

I agree it should be technically possible but I imagine their reasoning is that the nav data might be out of date so can't rely on it for speed limit data.

The latest update to waze now shows speed limit warnings on Android auto. Also chirp's first time you exceed limit

I have managed to activate it in my basic sat nav in the golf..I have one for speed limit & one for winter tyres....

So have one set to 80 & set to 90mph......great fun doing a rapid overtake when you hear bong & the first warning flashes up...followed immediately by bong & the second warning in the maxi dot...:D

I have colour maxi dot by BTW...
