Hi all.

I am the proud owner of a Superb and already did a first update last year of the Amundsen satnav.

I just saw a new update is awailable and am willing to do it.

The first "problem" here is that the downloads are two instead of one: one is 12+GB (STD2_820_EU1_201718.zip) and one is 5+ GB (STD2_820_EU2_201718.zip).

The first file is labelled as "MAPS ECE 2017/2018" while the second is labelled just "ECE 2 2017/2018".

The second problem is that my Skoda SD card is 4GB.

Previous update was "just" 3+ GB and it was a single file.

Now, neither the (hateful) video nor the short description text mention anything about 2 updates which I can presume need to be done in sequence or maybe even at once.

Anyone here experienced the same "issue"? How have you "solved" it?

Will I be forced to buy a 32GB Skoda  SD card?

Thanks A Lot In Advance!

1. Those are map files not a firmware update.

2. Is your "Amundsen" a VW Discover Media or a VW Discover Pro.

The Pro has a Harddrive so the updates end up there not on the SD card.

The discover media is the Amundsen while the discover pro is the Columbus.

Thanks a lot for the information, but I cannot fit neither a 12+G not a 5+G archive in a 4G SD card.

So, whatever device the Amundsen is using, I need to know how to transfer those updates to the satnav.

Any safe idea?

Hi Uqbar and all

Did you get to the bottom of it? - I am in kind of the same issue.

In system information it says that I have version ECE 1 2017/2018.

My card is 16GB, and the data on the card is approx 14GB decompressed (the version that came with the car).

Typing in my VIN on the update site says there are the same two updates:

* ECE 2017/2018 which sounds older and is12GB,

* ECE 2 2017/2018 which sounds newer but is only 5GB

What to do?

12gb western europe. 5gb eastern europe.

If you know where you live you're quids in.

Denmark, so weastern.

Thanks, I guess then it is already updated.

I'll wait for the november update then. There are some local new roads, that are not on the current map, which is a bit annoying.

Thanks everyone for the insights.

My main point now is whether I really-really need a Skoda branded SD card and whether the updates can be pushed through the USB port.

Any idea?

  • 1 month later...

You need the Skoda branded card as it contains hardcoded information to make it work with the Navigation system. A normal SD card won't work.
