Skoda Assist

Featured Replies

My Yeti is almost 4 yrs old and I still have about 13 months of Skoda Assist to run. The car has been totally reliable and have never needed to call on Skoda Assist in the past. (touching wood as I type this!). There is no warranty left on the car.

Am I obliged to have the car serviced at a dealer rather than an independent Skoda specialist, in order for Skoda Assist not to cause any grief should I need to call them out?

TIA for any advice.

Can you explain please how you have Skoda Assist with 13 months still to run, did you buy 2 years of it or something.

Read the T&C's you got and see if it is just Servicing to Manufacturers Schedule / Guidelines that is required.

?

Is it not worth buying a Skoda 12 month Warranty for your Yeti?

Last year when the car was 3 years old I was offered two years Skoda Assist (by them - not the dealer) at a good discount.

The service on it is not due until next April (It is annual on the anniversary of when I bought it in 2015), though the MOT is due next month. It is a pain that the servicing is out of kilter with the MOT....

There is a local independent that is in easy walking distance to me, rather than the 20 mile drive to my nearest dealer, so the local would be easier, and perhaps cheaper.

The Skoda warranty quoted to me last year seemed horrendously expensive considering I only do about 5000 miles a year.

Skoda Assist is only a breakdown service isn't it so it shouldn't matter whether you have it serviced at a main dealer or not?

Depends on how long you want to keep the car. If longer than the 13 months it might be better to have it dealer serviced in case you have any further issues and look for any goodwill from Skoda? If not you may as well use the independent.

As said though, would be wise to check the T&C's.

muddyjim,

best check with Skoda UK and see if your DSG is one that is part of the latest Service Campaign started late 2016 on some from 2013-2015.

http://m.skoda.co.uk/contact-us

It is a Software Update '34H5', and might not show on this checker and you might not be told about it if your car is not in at a Main Dealers for work.

Skoda Assist is actually operated by the AA. In the event you should ever need to call on the service, the visiting operator won't give a flying "French-connection-UK" as to whether your car has full Skoda history or not.

If your cars due for its first MOT have it done before its due at a skoda service if it fails on anything  under warranty

@Headinawayoffski  My Yeti is a manual, so hopefully no known major issues (it's a Nov 2013 pre F/L 1.2TSI)

@skoda1982 The car had it's first MOT last November - a week before the warranty expired - and had no problems.

Having (speed) read the Ts&Cs it implies that as long as the car has been "routinely serviced" it will be covered, though it does also say:

"In the event that the Vehicle cannot be repaired at the roadside or at Home, ŠKODA Roadside Assistance will arrange for the Vehicle to be taken to the most appropriate authorised ŠKODA Retailer or Repairer for repair" - So I guess I could thrash that one out if it ever gets to that point....

Thanks for all the replies

Jim
