Engine Mapping By RJM Newcastle

Featured Replies

Hi,

Been thinking about getting my MY2015 Superb 150 diesel mapped by RJM Newcastle for £300.  Has anyone used them before?

Wasn't sure if with the remap, would the Driving modes would still work? And if I get an ECU update in some future service or recall, will Skoda spit their dummy out, or will the remap even be overwritten?

... Have noticed people seem to go for the pedal box instead though, Are the above the reasons why, or is it purely the cheaper costs?  Have any comparisons been done for pedeal box v remapping?  Ive tried to search on the forum for all the answers, but no real consensus.

These are the figures that RJM Newcastle say to expect.

Original :  BHP 150

Tuned    : BHP 195

Increase:  BHP 45 / 30% Increase

Original : Torque 320

Tuned    : Torque 410

Tuned    : Torque 90 / 28% Increase

MPG       : Around 5 > 8% saving on fuel

How does the engine and clutch hold up to remapping, any long term users of it on the 3rd gen Superb? .... the last diesel I had was a civic, which the engine was great for being tuned.  But the clutch never lasted for long unless you put an uprated one in as well.

Cheers

Fin.

I used a tuning box from DTUK on my 150 diesel O3 and it was excellent - has the benefit of being removable for service etc, and doesn’t physically alter your ECU so you’ll be safe from having it wiped off etc, and makes it better for you in terms of warranty.

a pedal box is something different - all that does is tweak throttle response.

I've had loads of cars remapped in the past and never had any long term issues or reliability issues, but I’ve alwas used a reputable and well known tuner.

I’ve heard of RJM but never had anything done by them, or know anyone that has.

If a Tuning Box is fitted and the Turbo goes bang or an engine part fails and Skoda do tests and read the ECU and it shows the car has been driven out side the Skoda tolerances on certain parts the warrant might be void.  Anything they can wriggle out of,  they will.......

No agreed, but a lot harder to trace than a remap (hence why I didn’t say “warranty safe”.

Still though, I’d be happy to see that argued (if it ever got that far) in court, as they could not prove beyond reasonable doubt that anything was fitted - something operating outside of normal parameters could arguably be caused by any number of things.

Thing to note when tuning any car, comes the risk with it.

When it comes to warranty claims, when my 230 had it's problems they tried to refuse the claim due the the front alignment been out and the under carrage dammage was due to potholes. luckely for me the rear alignment was also out so it proved that the wheels were out of alignment from the factory.

All I'm saying is if the warranty is refused due to mitigating circumstances and skoda have an escape route they'll take it.................

As you say,  " You pay your money you take the chances "
