Post up your progress on getting it sorted.  From what I hear, dealers refuse outright stating that they cannot reverse it.  However, independent tuners can obtain the original files and roll the software back to exactly how it was.  Prices I have heard may be approx £100 for the software roll back but they tend to offer re-maps for a discount within the same deal.

Make sure your software is rolled back prior to any remap as a remap on top of the emissions "fix" software doesnt solve anything.  It has to be rolled back.

Personally Id get it rolled back by a reputable tuner only and not bother with any remap.  Cheaper, and back how it should be.

  • Hi redfab since the roll back it's like a different car regen as gone from 100 miles to 250 miles and the filter never reaches 100% it gets to about 80 % and the mpg is a bit better so all looks well

  • Eh? I don't know any loss adjusters to ask, but putting the same software back on (copied off an identical unfixed car) isn't a modification of any sort, is it? It would be just the same as not having

People have had successful remaps on top of the updated firmware.

Just remember which ever term you use,  Roll-back, Remap or Engine Management update.

You need to declare to your insurer,

Not so with 'The Fix;  as Manufacturer Factory approved and 'official'  as they are replacing the seemingly 'Legal' NOT FACTORY / BOARD OF MANAGEMENT  Approved & Not Illegal Defeat Device Maps.

*Just a few naughty technicians were responsible for 11 million Defeat Device carrying ECU's.*

Any Rolling Back is not 'Factory or VW Group Approved!,

Well unless VW are selling the 'Rolling Back' Technicians the 'Code',

Then VW being an aider to the actions must surely make them Factory Approved.

Adrian Flux representative will no doubt be along to say,  Any help needed with insurance just ask.

If the 'fix' isn't compulsory, then (precisely) reverting from 'fix' to pre-'fix' can't require notification to insurer, surely?

I think skoda should inform my insurer I didn't update the  lies in the first place they did and there doing it without people's consent in some cases don't you think

Razzertrevor:-

VAG DPF app is great I use it all the time very informative.

Sorry I have no idea of anyone near you who can do the emissions roll back, you would have to do some searching and make enquiries with local companies.

Problem is they could say it can be done and all you get is a remap and that's not what I want it's all about trusting someone I hope can find someone in the future I will keep my ears the ground

Wino,

Ask a Loss Adjuster about undeclared modifications and non standard software / engine management.

The Fix is not compulsory but at least if there are deaths or life changing injuries from a failure or loss of power post fix then the VW Group will have Corporate Responsibility.

If the Owner / Keeper / Driver has had the modifications done them they and the person / business doing it might be found liable.

All just theory obviously, never happens or arises,

No one badly modifying suspension or steering is ever taken to court if they cause an accident.

The Police never take actions again businesses doing DPF removals / altering mileages or the likes, all internet myths.

Who knows.

It was not illegal when done at the factory seemingly, but 1.2 million vehicles in the UK are supposed to have it removed by VW if the owners allow them to.

So if putting the same back on is OK then no probs.  If it was not illegal and no way against EU / UK legislation,

then whats the problem.

VW Group will not allow to revert to pre Fix, but if they are selling the code to Dealers / Technicians not part of the VW Group then it must be OK.

Not Factory Approved Engine Management / Software that is being put on the ECU though.   It is a Remap.  New Mapping.

Why does there need to be any selling of code by VW group to anyone?

I think you may have imbibed more than me tonight.

No need to be a cheeky monkey.

It may need no code on some of the many different 1.2, 1.6 or 2.0 TDI engines, but some Tuners / Remappers / Technicians are asking the Customer for the price of getting the code from VW.

EU law requires all repair procedures and specialist tools be made available to third parties so that the manufacturer's approved dealers can't hold a monopoly on repair and maintenance. Unfortunately it doesn't require them to make any of it available free of charge so they charge handsomely for it.

Try these guys - they're local to you and certainly know what they are doing.

The required pre-fix code is out there in any number of ECUs though isn't it? Just needs someone with the kit and skills to read and write it? I'm sure various people on this very forum are so equipped.

Completely possible.

VCP and ODIS can both flash ECU's using original VAG flash files. If your ECU had an update released prior to the fix, then it should be possible to flash to that version.

The problem lies if there isn't an pre-fix flash file, then you'll need other tools ;)
