Rear camera owners - views?

 My local dealer installed the camera and the necessary cabling, when they tried to code it using their equipment they couldn't.

 They then got in touch with Skoda UKs technical department who pointed them to a small paragraph in a technical document which stated that the reversing camera could not be retro-fitted to Superbs built after week 22 (2017).

  I myself do not understand what the difference between a factory fit and a retro-fit is provided all the necessary wiring/connectors are installed.

We were quoted £430 for supply and fitting of the camera.

 I'd be delighted if somebody could explain to me how to code a camera in using VCDS as I've told Thomson & Potter that if I find a work around to the alleged issue I'll get them to refit the camera and I'll code it in myself.

If its any help, here is a scan of my car which has had the camera retrofitted, although it is an earlier car than yours (early 2016) . You can see that there is a fault code in the camera module - no basic setting. But despite that, it works fine. Also showing the fault for the AWD - now fixed with new pump.

Thanks for the scan, that's much appreciated. 

 I think what I probably need is a scan of an MY18 car that's fitted with a reversing camera so I can compare it with a scan of my car.

You can source the kit from Kufatec, with coding talk to Alex at www.vagcarcoding.com as I'm pretty sure he could remote code it for you.

As the instigator of this thread and now having had the car for 18 months, if you are thinking about getting a camera, DO IT!  Its just fabulous and makes reversing up to a trailer hitch a doddle, as well as being really useful for general manoeuvring.

 

We've got a new Karoq comming next week for t'missus, and if it hadn't had the camera as standard it would have been first thing on the options list.

The trouble is, when I get into other-half's car and reverse, I keep looking stupidly at the dashboard expecting to see the reversing camera image - which isn't there!

Its not the *entire* reason we are changing t'missus's Yeti for the Karoq, but it is quite big part of it 🙂 I think we've essentially been so spoiled by the Superb, we've built the Karoq into a 'mini-me' spec wise - it comes with the camera and we've added ACC, heated screen, heated rear seats, poncy towbar, traffic sign recognition and gone  for DSG, all 'cause we like them in the Superb!
