First service 17,000 miles.

Featured Replies

Hi, my Octavia has just had it first oil and inspection service at 17,000 miles. All was good and car has been totally faultless this far, What was noted and questioned was how I had less than 10% brake wear. They said most cars at that milage already have at least 30% or more wear. They said it was even more surprising when I told them I had done a fair bit of towing this summer with an erde unbraked trailer and a few caravan Tows. Basically I put this down to keeping a safe distance from the car in front so don't need to hit the brake pedal every time they do and judging the road ahead so backing of the accelerator early and taking more advantage of engine braking, all this probably explains why I also get excellent economy and maybe in 23 years of driving never being involved in a road traffic accident, hope I'm not speaking to soon......

They also sent a video to my mobile number showing them carrying out some of the inspection to tyres, brakes, suspension and CV boots etc. Do most skoda dealers do this now?, it was a nice little touch, the video was sent to my mobile why I was still waiting for them to finish the free courtesy valet, so gave me something to watch why I was in the waiting room.

Good.

So no upselling to you from them.

Did they give the OEM thickness of the discs and the measurement taken, or was 10% a guestimation?

Is it on the video the discs being measured for the thickness?

Also don't forget to top up on your screen wash, use code "MID36" for discount, 5 litres for £2.23 delivered to your door, only thing I recommend is to buy several at a time to help the company make a profit, it must cost more for delivery for them if just buying one at £2.23.

Was this meant for a different topic? Dealer usually tops up the screenwash when it's in, assuming they would have done the same at your service?

Looks like they did although not quite to the top, there was no charge for screenwash on the bill. Just thought I would remind everyone about this screenwash deal, especially as winter is on the way, I go through about a 7 litres a month this time of year, especially with having xeons headlights.

Ahh, yeah it's a good shout! The cola scented screenwash from ECP is quite nice. The Xenon washers spray for fun, wastes loads!

Got to agree - mine drinks the stuff over winter, and from what I remember you're supposed to put it in neat ...

I've coded my headlight washers via VCDS to give a two second delay before spraying when the stalk is activated, this allows me to spray the screen only and saves loads of screenwash. Doesn't go all over the front of the car unnecessarily either :)

The scented stuff I mentioned above is currently £2.70 delivered for a 5L from Carpartsforless with code OCT10

Time to see if LIDL has the good concentrate Winter Windscreen Wash in,

the really good low temperature Continental stuff at 'Much Cheapness'.

Cheers for the heads up on the screenwash Powys. Just got 3x for £6.28 delivered with their Halloween discount. Get through a bit of this in the winter with both cars so good to have a supply in the shed. Cheers mate, good tip and reminder that.

Bought myself some -15c screenwash on ECP.

4x5l concentrate for £11.98 delivered with their halloween code.  Thanks for the heads up @POWYSWALES

How/when do the headlight washers normally work??

They work when the lights are on.  As soon as you pull the stalk to wash the windscreen the headlight washer will also activate and will then activate every 10th wash or after the car is restarted. The VCDS mod allows you to delay the headlight wash up to 2 seconds after you pull the stalk.

Can't use anything else after trying this stuff Prestone quite dear but works great in winter just going to recode the headlights next week to stop using so much:D

Would someone be kind enough to point out what the VCDS changes are to delay the headlight washers from being deployed?

One tip of you are a gentle braker. The rear caliper can seize up and only one pad is working. This leads to corrosion on the other side of the disc.

To avoid this you can occasionally try pressing the brake pedal hard when stationary. Noticed my hand brake getting stiff recently and this cured it.

Well spotted! Code ends tomorrow. I actually updated my post on Hotukdeals for this when the SCARY16 code came on last week, but forgot about the post on here.

Even better price
