Hi there, any help appreciated, my octy TDI cR 170 is due a timing belt and water pump, I'm just wondering what peoples suggestions are as to what make timing bet kit and water pump to get and also does anybody know how many hours labour it takes to do it ? Been quoted £344 and that s using an s&k timing belt kit and water pump, thanks In Advance for any help I may receive

most garages use gates timeing belt kits.
The £344 is that includeing vat at all? When I got mine done I payed bout £400 ish. The garage I use are good. Was a bit cheaper than the main dealer.

 

SKF, Gates or INA/Ruville are all OE specification and design (INA would be OE at the factory)

Thats not a bad price its £100 cheaper than the skoda fixed price for belt and water pump, its advisable to change the aux belt on the altenator as it comes off any way and only £15-20 .

i think i paid 3-4 hours labour for my cambelt change, i supplied my own genuine cambelt and water pump kit from TPS. 

Hi, thanks for the replys, the quote I got was for a SKS belt kit and water pump, anybody had any dealings using this belt kit and water pump? Really wana use a gates belt and pump but that shoves the price up to about £450!!! Without sounding cheap, I want to keep costs to a minimum, also is it recommended that the garage change the coolent too? And one last thing, what are the mileage/year intervals for the aux belt? Yeah Stuart that is inclusive of vat, thanks for the advice about aux belt willy 

Speak to Richie an Automotive solutions in Peterlee, they are an independent  VAG specialist, I had mine done there about 1 month ago, £299 using genuine Skoda parts and I paid the extra £15 for the aux belt at the same time ( worth doing as they have to take the old one off anyway) so £314 all in Inc vat.

 

The wife's Audi A3 2.0 CR150 id due in February and it will be going to Automotive solutions.

I don't know what type they used (and I can check the worksheet later for the actual material/labour cost split) but I got mine done at a local independents this week and this was what they quoted (and charged):

The timing belt job would cost around £373 plus VAT = £448 and this includes the timing belt kit, water pump, drive belt, new antifreeze(renewed when replacing the water pump), and new crankshaft pulley screws. 

Cheaper than what the dealer had quoted by about £50, plus it's a 20 minute walk from my house, not a 40 min drive in the car

Hi, just wanted to close this post off, I booked it into Pullman Skoda at Durham, they had a special offer on at £399 for tbelt kit ,water pump and for and extra 22 quid they have done the aux belt aswel and changed the coolant. Local garage wanted to charge me £475 for fitting a gates tbelt kit and water pump,all in all I thought the price what Skoda have charged me isn't all that bad considering they have gave me courtesy car free of charge! Like people have mentioned on this thread,I suspect Skoda fit a gates belt anyway, thanks for peoples inpit on this and there different experiences
